Phoenix Gold Phorum

I have a PG X100.4 with a strange noise issue. The noise comes from within the amp itself and is not reproduced within the music. It's a hum, if you will.

It only happens the very first time I start my car every morning and is silent within a minute or two... strange.

Any ideas?

It's probably just the fan. Sometimes the fans on the Xenons can be unusually loud at start up. Shouldn't be a problem.

I agree, the fan on my 200.2 is pretty loud for about a minute when you first start it up, but it goes away. Oddly enough the one on my 1200.1 is quiet...

I mean, I can here the fan spool up for 3-5 seconds everytime I power up the system... but this is a fairly loud hum that lasts for 1-3 minutes, but only occurs during the very first time I power up any given day... the est of the day, it won't do it.

My 600.1 doesn't make any noise at al.

I'm not SURE, i'm not there to listen so i'm just making the best guess i can.

the mono blocks"s fans DO work differently then the full range amps.

1-3 minutes does sound long. is your trunk especially hot? maybe it just has to blow out built up heat?


also, you might have dust/debris in the fan making it louder?

(just throwing up possible ideas)

you might PM VW337 or Roland. the were/are PG techs that had first had experience with designing the amps and could probably shed more light.

Thanks for the heads up. They're not even in a trunk, right behind m head in my pick-up. If they were in a trunk I probaby would have never even noticed it.

I'll probably just keep an eye (ear) on it to make sure it doesn't get any worse... Like I said, so far it doesn't seem to be hindering the performance any...

I wondered why my 1200.1 wasn't as loud at start up as my 200.2...

I have a 200.2 that did the same thing. ended up having some issues with the amp, not related to the fan. and sent it in for a repairbut havent powered it since. and has a new board anyway so would assume that the fan is new now as well. I think the bearings on the fans get worn and make some noise until they have ran for a while, seen computer fans do the same thing.
you dont like the amp so sell it to me.

I love the amp and ironically enough, since posting here, I've rarely had this problem... I'm sure this amp is going to last me a long time.
