input on a convert. install idea.. any and all suggestions

Post by scorpio86 »

sooo i jus bought an '02 mustang gt convert a few months back. and of course i want to change out the factory junk. my dilema is what to go with, i kno in the end its up too me. any pro's or con's to the following setup... just runnin an 8inch in every corner.. front kicks and either side of the trunk and runnin' 4 coaxs in factory locations.. it should be a decent yet less expensive setup.. but ive honestly never heard 8s. only 10s and 12s. any input comments suggestions are appreciated, thanks!

I think it would sounds really good.. I had 4 8" subs in my truck with 4 coax speakers, and it was surprisingly loud and clean. Your not going to hit that extremely low bass, but its going to sound really good, especially if you have a couple of 4 channel amps.. say like 2 - zx450's ... and you could always hide a 15 in the spare tire well if thats not enough for you..lol.

If yer gonna run 8's then get GOOD woofers. JL 8W7's are awesome woofers. They don't need shit for air space and run nicely off of 300-400 watts. I'd say 4 of those in the trunk off a Ti1200.1 and 6" Ti elite components(use the MACH460 tweeter pods) up front for monster mid-bass off a Ti400.2 would do the trick. :D

Or-

You sack-up and fab 10's into the sidepanels in the rear so you can actually hear the subs. Being a convertable, the top down will make it hard for sound to make it's way through the canvas to the front.

it will probably be pretty important for me to use those pods up top and run components at least up front wont it? instead of runnin' just a coax? should i jus run a coax in rear too?

YES........ You need to run a compnent set up front. You'll like the sound better. I'd use a set in the rear also if you can but a set od coax will give ya some rear fill that sounds decent.

even though i can only run a 5.25 instead of a 6.5?? or if pg would make a 5x7 component lol. when running comps should one run say all 4 tweets off one amp and then the woofers off another or run all off one or each pair say the front pair off one and the rear pair off the other? is one going to matter over the other?
