I want to know how well the iPod control works on Eclipse decks, and this one specifically. I didn't see mention of it in the article, did I miss it?

interesting 8 volts out????? nevr used an eclipse h/u, still happy with my old sony cdx c90, however, id luv to get my hands on a nakamichi h/u just to try, but if eclipse sent me one of these id try it! copper chasis is always a giveaway of a good h/u :D

you didnt miss anything, the reviewer didnt go into how or how well the ipod feature works...however, since he didnt complain about it, i figure it must have been at least adequate or he didnt try it out...the only thing im a lil concerned about is that he mentioned that navigating the eq menus can be tricky..im hopin he's just really picky or not good at it.

tru dat!... this head unit only for those who WANT to use an external amp and get the very most from it...by not incorporating an amp, they had the ability to easily put in massive rca voltage and all the eq you (or at least I) could need...plus the available car-specific parameter setting on the website....AUDIOPHILES REJOICE!!!

you only need a line driver to dial it back if yer amp cant handle 8v, but any good amp should be able to.

I have done tons and tons of research on this deck and I didnt really find too much complaints about the ipod control. I did however hear that the older molder(last years) Eclipse units had a noise problem via USB but I am sure that is corrected.
I had a thread up about What head unit everyone was using and there was mention about the 3200 (the model under) of the volume control not being able to turn down the music fast enough with the dial.

Eclipse will always be my first choice. My 55430 ran flawless for years. My 8053 is excellent, I have yet to install the BLA because the current installed amplifiers in the car will not take a 12volt+ balanced signal.

Crossover slopes should be all of those. You should be able to choose which one you want, or at least i can with mine.

well, the only reason i'm really debating it is cuz i'm really familiar with how the jvc's work and i suits me...i'm just afraid i'll get eclipse and not like that aspect of it...is it pretty easy to navigate, ecpecially trough the eq's?

I'm sure it's a FANTASTIC HU, but I'm getting a bit sick of how long it takes to find an artist when searching through my iPod on Alpine "Full-speed" decks. I assume the 9887 has the same control interface mine does. It worked fine with my 2GB nano, but with my 32GB touch, it's just too much music to go through the list artist-by-artist with that rotary knob. It needs some kind of mode to bust through artists by letter rather than just artist-by-artist.

That's why I asked about the Eclipse iPod control and how well it works to see if Eclipse has found a better way of doing this than Alpine did.

This one HU does sound great though, definitely one competitor for 9887 if you're not going to use the IMPRINT (which I understand is a huge part of the 9887 so you have to give some credit there).

This is why I organize and browse by genre. Makes it much easier to find, and works great for randomizing a certain type of music. But last I checked, Alpine doesn't support full Genre/Artist/Album browsing either!

My Genres are fairly well organized. Not as Nazi as yours are Tom... but you're right, Alpine doesn't have browse by Genre, just by Artist, Album, Song and Playlist if I recall correctly.

At first I was kinda staying away from it due to it being a deadhead but I soon realized that my system would sound so good running everything off of amps. I wish I could find one for 350 shipped but it seems more and more people are interested in these so even ebay sellers are jacking the prices. And because Eclipse is a highly protected brand I cant find anything.

I also would like someone that owns the deck to do a review of the iserv Eclipse has , which is similar to Imprint.

I like eclipse decks, but I just think their interface isnt to great, and they are ugly as sin. Other than that, they sound fantastic... I will stick with the 800prs pioneer another gem 8)
