RSd 12's sealed or RSd 10's ported

I listen to a lot of techno and rap and stuff and i was wondering for pure loudness would the 12s sealed or the 10s ported be louder. I only ask because i have the 12s sealed right now and they dont seem to be as loud as i would have hoped and i dont have enough room for a ported 12 box. But i would for the 10's. So which set up would be better?

i had this debate with a good friend of mine that is an installer... i used to have a firebird and we debated running a single 10 ported or a single 12 in a big sealed.. i ended up going with the single 10 ported.. i ran a TI 10DVC on a bridged zx350v2 and it got down. for what it was.. being a single 10 i could not complain a bit. it sounded damn good and it got down. but i wouldnt necessarily say it was loud, and definately not real loud outside of the car (hatchback) but i was happy with it for what it was and for the money in it. it brings the freq in tighter and probably wont play quite as low with as much output vs sealed because of tuning it to get that extra free db.

i dont think the 10's would give you any better results.
the 2 RSD's on a t1200.1 should be insane...i would guess around 140db. how loud are you wanting?
have you checked to see what the voltage output on the 1200.1 is?

I must not know what real bass heads want because my two sealed RSd12's on ~500W total hits me in the chest pretty hard.

buy/borrow a multimeter and put the conectors on the + and - of the amps output.
you should have about 52-55 volts coming off it

does it matter what i have the volume at when i check?

Yes.
You'll want your head unit volume up to the maximum volume you would ever be turning it up to for good loud listening (don't clip it!) This ensures that you're measuring the top voltage your amps will be making at the terminals under listening conditions.

Honestly, I don't think the RSDs are a great candidate for running ported anyways.
First of all, they are bottom end monsters. Porting them will only bloat the bottom end, and make them sound inconsistent unless you had some serious midbass up front.
Secondly, they require HUGE boxes... nearly double the airspace of the sealed enclosure. If you're building a box that big, why not run two subs sealed, and not have to worry about the biased response of a port?

He is running a pair sealed currently

My point is... I would sooner consider 4 10's than 2 ported 10's

im saving for 96 deville though so we'll see

so are using a hi/low converter for the tantrum?

im not sure what that is... line out adapter?

where are you getting your signal to your tantrum from?
a high low converter takes speaker leands and turns them into a signal that you can attach rca's to

by ferrariboy150
well thats it then. it splices into the rear speakers and gives the rca inputs

ah, yeah that probibly isnt the main culprit, but it certainly isn't helping

yeah that sounds good. i didnt do it cuz the the stuff isnt in my car right now its in my friends but what if the box was only like 97 percent sealed what kind of a difference would that make
