forgot how much a pain in a$$ tunning is....

Post by buckster »

I just installed the T600.4 and the T500.2. The cross over values start at 40 and then skip to 110. I am trying to find that sweet 65 htz spot for the HP I had with the JL amp. I have been tweaking and listening to my CD's for about an hour and a half so far. I'm getting closer but I still have some work to do...anyone have tunning CD recommendations?

I had everything blending nicely before I switched out the amps. I sure seems to be given me a hard time this time around.

I don't know about anyone else but in order to find the sweetest sound it takes me about a month of tweaking gains/crossovers/Eq settings everytime I make major changes...

The xover knobs on the Tantrums aren't notched are they?

I know what you mean about tweaking xovers with those little knobs. It's not easy. This won't help you at all but I stumbled on an AX204 and it solved my problems. Dead on xover points with resistor networks (RNETs).

I'm sure there would be a way to measure your xover cards in the amps while tuning to get the sweet spot if you know the value already, but I just don't know how (maybe you measure resistance across the pot?).

It took me like a month and half to tune my last setup  NAd then I went and competed and that blew everything out of proportion.

Youll get it , give it time

Well, I am dealing with a bit more power with these amps and I can hear it too. I do have more head room and it's nice. Sonically, it seems the highs are a bit brighter and I am considering going to -2 attenuation with the tweets. But I am not sure if they are brighter because I have more power or if the amp is reproducing the highs with more clarity.

I guess I thought if I had the front crossed over at 60 and the sub at 70 like the amps I just took out it would all be golden, just a bit louder with more mid base punch.

It's all a slightly out of time at the moment and the really low notes on the sub seem to be louder and not as smooth too. I think one reason for this might be because I moved the sub from the rear passenger seat to the center of the cab (Ford Ranger). This may have been a mistake, but I will keep tweaking.

I try not to worry about the exact crossover point when dealing with those little pots on PG amps, just tune it to your ear and forget about it!

I would also put your sub in its previous location, too many changes at once makes tuning very difficult... You can always move it to its new location after you get your system dialed.

digital crossovers rule!

I love tuning, thats the best part... Mine will all be hooked up through my touchscreen Alpine, so My only problem will be adjusting it while I am trying to drive and shift!

ah, I turned my deck EQ off and it helped a ton. It was set on Natural and thought it was off. I think it's almost there.

If I could get my hands on a black one of these it would be very cool!

yea built in deck EQs are usually pretty lousy, I'd go with an outboard setup like the ZX2 or even an AX406A...

Ok, I decided to use my Kenwood DDX7015 crossover. It has F and R high pass 40,60,80,100,all the way up to 220. I have it at 80 now for the Fronts. I also decided to use the deck for the sub with low pass of 80. The sub setting drops to 50 from 80 and I really wish it had 60 or 70 but it sound pretty good at 80.

I had the JL e4300 crossed over at 60 and still think it sounded a bit better. Everything seemed smoother more detailed just not enough oomph. I have more headroom now though. I am not sure, but the crossover in the tantrum amp seems to be functioning as i can hear a difference when I adjust it, but everything seemed really clumped together, my mids especially seemed flat. So, I bypassed the amp an am using the deck.

Everything is better, but I usually don't have a lot of faith in HU EQ's and X-overs but seems many of you are are here.

I may have to look at the Alpine HU for it's x-over capabilities

Whats the roll off on that Kenwood? -12, -18, -24? The lower the # the larger the gap between the crossover points you want, or you will have a bump in the blending of the two high and low signals... if its -12, I'd cross the highs at about 100, or set the sub to 50 and leave the highs at 80... I think the sub at 80 and the highs at 100ish would sound best. If its -18 or -24, I'd set the # closer at say 90 ish... Try that and see if the sound smoothens out. :)

I can't find any info letting me know the roll of freq. My only options on high pass is 60,80,100,120 or higher. For low pass it's 50,80,100,120....no 60 :x

there is an optional DSP unit I can purchase for 200 on ebay that would give me roll of adjustments of 12, 18, or 24 but I figure it might be better to look at one of the Audio Control units.

If it doesnt say, its prob -6 or -12... Try 100 on the highpass, and 80 for the bass... that should blend better. If you have a 13-15" sub 50 would be the best bet and 80 for the highs... it's all matching the speakers capabilities best for the systems requirements. 80 on bass and 100 on highs is tried and true, I've done that many many times. :D
