Sub turns on...then off...then stays off..then turns back on

Boston Acoustics 10.5LF
Toyota Camry 2004

Issue: subs were working and sometimes during operation would turn off and on. then it would just stop working for a long period of time (with no variables changed). then i got tired of it so i just unplgued the sub. then the other day afte rabout 3-4 days of unplugging it, i plug it back in and it starts working.

Note: ALl wires are secured, no loose connections.

anyways i got tired and i think its my sub and im not hapyp with this sub's performance, so im replacing it with a PG RSD12D.

but my question is, what would cause a sub to turn on and off? Its not the amplifier overheating, i don't even turn it on loud, everytime i touch the amplifer its either COLD or room temperature.

all fuses are checked...etc..please help me understand the situation.

so is it just the sub turning off, or the amp AND sub?

not from over heating per se, but maybe the remote lead loose somewhere?

also, it could very well be a signal issue. either your head unit, or a fualty cable.

you might try running a new cable over the seats to see if the problem persists before running it under your carpet

Could also be a wire shorting out in the amplifier. If you get any loose strands on the traces, it will cause intermittent failures like you are seeing.

I had a problem like this once. My problem was the remote wire was crimped between some brackets in my car and was shorting out intermittently.

whenever i check the sub (on or off) i see a GREEN light on my amp....

meaning the green light is always there...regardless if the sub is making any sound or not

so would it be the remote wire or what is going on?

to be honest im tired of boston acoustics, even if it isn't the subwoofer's fault, im glad it gave me an excuse to move over to the PG family.

Sounds like the amp may be going into overload or thermal protection. Do any other colored lights turn on? How high are your bass boost and gains? Does the amp feel very hot?

Any weird sound coming from the sub?

I had this occur with a partially burned vc, the wire was intact but had come unglued from the former, and would occasionally short out the speaker - as I go over this again I think if it was shorting the amp would show OV light?

yeah sometimes there is a weird sound coming from the sub...esp when starting my car..although i thikn thats a seperate beast altogether.

but im getting rid of this subwoofer, so these problems are no more, i was just curious as to cause/effect as to just further my knowledge about car audio.
