say, running 2250 @ 2-ohm stereo for 517x2 on these bad boyz??
thinking/considering it.. and what do i need to be aware of??
I have heard rumors of underpowering these and such....
I just kinda dont wanna have to drag out the MS1K nah'mean?!?!
can it be done, is it okay?

pls thx

Sure it can be done, but...... it's like buying a Ferrari and never driving it past 55 MPH. Your better off buying more efficient subs. I have mine on a TI1200.1 and still know that it wants/starves for more.

...it will work. but as mando said....thats about 1/3 of the power they want

so no danger of damaging something.. cool.. I have heard that woofers can get damaged by underpowering them.. which in-itself made little to no sense to me.. but thought I would ask... (i.e. i mean what happens when you turn the volume down... you must be decreasing the wattage to speaker/subs, right??

I believe the fear of damage isn't from sending less power to the subs, but rather from sending a clipped signal to them by over-driving the amp

^ the idea behind the "to little Power" statement is clipping

less power obviously = less volume. which is fine for the sub. but if you try and increase the volume past what the amp can produce...you then get clipped signal

this explains better then i can: http://www.bcae1.com/2ltlpwr.htm

if you play the sub at the volume that 517 watts will let them play, you will be fine....but i think that is likly not as loud as you would like them to be

You can do it, just make sure you don't clip the amp. You will most likely turn the gain of the amp more than the amp can produce because you will most likely not notice the clipping.

I'd check with a DMM if I were you (check how to page if you're not sure how)

Why not bridge the amp and use both subs. Will sound alot better with better control and impact.

^im not sure ~250 per elite would lead to control or impact. they are pretty inefficient drivers, and even 517...isnt going to let them reach full excursion.

the 2250 is a hell of an amp, but is a poor match for the ti elites

edit - not sure where i got that 250 number from before..please disregard

How can an amp that makes atleast 1000 true watts bridged be bad for any sub. I suppose the recommended amp is like 2000 watts of uncontrolled class d power.

i'm a big believer in a/b power, but this sub, let alone a pair of them is just awkward for this amp.

1st, the ti elite is a duel 4ohm sub (a MM will tell you its actually closer to a duel 3)

2nd, the subs RMS is 1200 watts. which is a little optimistic. most of the people on this board have found that at least 1500 watts is needed for them to reach their full potential. the cone is surprisingly heavy, the LEDs built in and the giant magnet all lead to this sub's efficacy being about 86db (when in series)

so if he goes 1 elite bridged, is either running it at just under 2ohms, (which with some fans might be feasible...but i'm not sure its worth the risk) or at 6ohms...which will result in just north of 700 watts and about 1/2 of what is needed for that sub to reach excursion

if he runs a pair of them that he can run it ~3.4 ohms bridged or 1.7ish stereo, which is good for the amp, but still about 517 for each sub.

it will be the cleanest, best 512 watts those subs can have...but the reality is that's not enough power to (especially in a sealed box) to give that sub any justice. he's completely wasting the potential excursion that sub was made for.

if he can find a non class d amp that can make the ~2500 watts he should have for those subs, that would be ideal but that would almost certainly be insanely expensive, and likly create the biggest electrical headache of his cars life.

i recommended the class d amps, because in my opinion, that's the reality of the situation. and the ones recommended were far from the "amp from a catalog" typical uncontrolled class D amps.

dual 4ohm is perfect. connect them so both are at 8 ohm. Than connect them so the amp sees a bridged load of 4 ohms At 1000 plus watts. May not play at full excursion but would still sound killer

But Matt, there are no grilles for the Elites. Same problem as your RSDs! The RSDs would be silk on that power too, whereas Elites would be hugely underpowered.

I still say you gotta install those RSDs buddy :P
