been riding for a few weeks with no sounds, scaled back from my all jl system. got a 9:0:5 today, one of those local forum deals. hooked it up, the thing sounds great with the engine off. but as soon as the engine is started the whining begins. LOUD. rises and falls with the engine rpm. LOUD. i can even hear the cd spin up through the speakers when the source is selected. i have had numerous amps in the car, none (other than one that was bad) sounded like this. head unit should have not gone bad in a few weeks of not being powered up but i will check that tomorrow; it is a pioneer after all. the amp is in 3 channel mode, fronts and rears are bridged at 4 ohms, sub is 2 ohms. when a deep bass note hits, the amp's power sags. the speakers break up and the volume gets low. any ideas what it could be? with the car off the sound is crystal clear but it still breaks up at volume with heavy bass notes. any ideas as to what the fix could be? other than using it as a boat anchor and holding out for something else?

Sounds like you need a better ground. What size power cable are you useing?

Check your ground mounting point to make sure it hasn't rusted. Also check to make sure your power cable isn't laying over your one of your rca's. A power cable touching a signal cable will def give you alt wine.

will check the ground in a few minutes. signal wires and power are routed on different sides of the car, no crossing. i will also check the radio, i do not seem to have good luck with pioneers.

Hell I could have told you that. Throw it in the trash and get a Alpine.

it is my fault. power wire touched amp chassis when I hooked it up and I thought nothing of it. ever since pioneer went to the plug-in RCA I have seen a lot of blown RCA outputs and or internal amp blowing. not to mention the motorized faces locking up (which I had fixed on this already). I prefer eclipse, but can't spare funds for a 7200mkII. alpine sounds good but who the f*** designed the menu interface to adjust sound shaping settings?

^that makes sense.
i knew it wasn't THAT noob of a mistake.
also, if the amp chassis is directly touching car, that probably inst helping. the octane-R's can induct some noise threw the amp bottom
