Here's a Fluke 199C ScopeMeter I discovered sitting idle on a shelf at the office. It's at my disposal when required. Yes, I have a chub in me shorts.

Dual trace scope and built in DMM.
Record, save and DL via USB.
I haven't looked at the included software yet.
I should be able to dial in most anything now.

I'm showing both the left (blue trace) and right (red trace and read out) channel of a 1Khz tone from my PC sound card - 33.4 mvRMS @ 999.7 Hz. Filthy signal. The Fluke display and my camera don't get along. The live screen is much clearer than I can show here.

I'm currently in the process of building a sealed enclosure for bench testing. I expect them to sound quite satisfying.........

Fluke meters rule, and they have the price tag to show for it.

Having a hookup like that rules. I have a Fluke TrueRMS meter here at work I can play with as well... but it doesn't have a scope... however, we do have an old school scope as well, but I don't know how to use one!

Speaking of which, we also have crazy DC power sources, but I don't think I can borrow those, they are fantastically large, powerful and expensive.

I hear you Fuzz. I can't justify funding a Fluke like this one @ $3,300 USD. I used a basic scope back when I was on the bench every day. This one is feature rich, but I'll only need it to set gains and cross over points. It's fully automatic and self selects the appropriate scale, making results reading much easier.

My bench PS is the battery in the corner that gets charged when needed from the charger behind it. I'd love to get an old HP 80A unit.

Yeah, I haven't found the right cheap o-scope yet either. Seems like it's all crap until $200 or so, which is quite a fortune for just setting amp gains.

No. It's the company's unit, but at my disposal whenever I need it. We design and install multimedia systems. It was funded within some six figure project and is now part of our tool crib.

I was thinking about starting a handheld O-scope thread to see what other's have used.

BTW, I love my SA-3055, but hardly ever use it. I had it set up for a while in my living room, set to RTA, just to have a dancing display. I did "measure" my responce a couple of times, just to see.

Anyway, back to the O-scopes.

I'd love to get a Fluke, my Fluke DMM, has been great for me for years. But the price tags are just too much. Cheapset I've found is about $1200.

I need a dual channel unit, with USB, so that I can use to datalog while driving (I tune a few cars for myself and friends), and I have built an ECM test bench, which I would like to add some inputs too, one of which is a MAF sim, that will need to have a proper frequency based signal. (555 timer and some zero crossing inverter should do the trick. What I need to do is log while driving, and then be able to compare in real time my simulated circuit. I also want to test the latency of some ignition modules, so hence the need to be able to read the input signal and output signal at the same time, to line them up and read what the latency is to get to that point. So I really need a dual channel. I could do most of this with a bench top model, but figured I might as well make it a portable affair.

Anyway, the most affordable dual channel hand held O-scope I've found is made by Owon. http://www.owon.com.cn/eng/hdsSeries.asp

Seems to be anywhere from $585 to $700 depending on what website you look at.

Any other hand held O-scopes seem to be single channel in this price range or less. I've found quite a few in the $200 range that are single channel, and most have RS-232 for communication, a couple had USB, even in thsi price range.

I was really hoping to find something in the $3-400 range in dual channel, but have pretty much given up on that. I am willing to "take a chance" at $600, but would like some feed back from anyone that has used these or suggests something else.

Has anyone found any sort of PC/laptop based O-scope interface? Where the display IS the PC/laptop screen?

I dont know ANYTHING about most of this stuff other than they are what they are. Old school scopes and power supplies...testers.....sound generators signal generators.....meters......vacuum tubes....etc...
The one KT88 Genalex is worth around the $200 range on ebay. And mine is brand spankin new...sealed...Of course most likely hand made....in the 60's or 70's...

I take that back....they WERE (kt88 tubes) going for 200 a piece like a few weeks ago...
Now they seem to have come down a bit.

You have a small fortune in tubes alone, holy frak.

I know...hehe I have ANOTHER box of tubes...just open no boxes...could be used...could be just whatever.....hehe has like maybe 50 tubes in there....

So yah...thats just SOME of the stuff I have...I have no clue what all that stuff is...hehe....

I am planning to drop these items on the bay sometime...so if you see something you are interested in...I can take better pictures...BTW the money is NOT for me...if you remember earlier...my parents are having some financial difficulty, it will all go back to them....so no profit for me...I will eat whatever costs that I need to get these out of here and hopefully make a little bit of cash for them....
