Sometimes, I Really Hate e-Bay (Channel Dead On Amp)

So today, I finally got around to getting both my Tantrum 1200.1 and Tantrum 600.4 wired up and running. For about 5 minutes, I couldn't believe how insanely great the active setup sounded...THEN...I noticed something...No sound coming from the right tweeter. Awesome. I double checked all my wiring, even took out the deck and double checked everything. Then i switched L and R RCAs on the tweeters and sure enough, the right rear channel of the amp doesn't work. Swell.

Even better, I bought the thing for about $130 and checked PG's flate rate chart. $135...Damn all to hell. Is there anyone/anywhere that you guys know of that might be able to do a cheaper repair on this thing? I just dropped $125 to get my 1200.1 repaired from PG and I can't really stand the thought of dropping another $135 for another repair. Fuuuuuuggg...Looks like it might be time to look into another amp line besides the tantrum.

At least I've got a spare 500.2 for now, so I took out the deck for the third time today, (yeah!) and switched the x-over to 4-way and threw the RSDc crossovers into the mix. Obviously doesn't sound as good as the active setup did, but at least it's a band-aid in the meantime. I love it when people sell broken shit on e-Bay...

I bench test EVERY piece of gear, within days of receipt, regardless of where it came from. Nothing worse than doing an install and finding out your gear is busted. Oh crap. you know all about that.......

that sux, have u checked into the rsd line, espicially since ur going active? or still probably cheaper to repair, i think audio savings out of ny sales the 500.4 for 200 free ship, ive bought a rsd 500.4, and 2 rsd 1200.1 from them, never had an issue( all BNIB)-if u need , let me see what i have......, i could lend u my zx350 , since u live in tampa, for time being, if u like, let me know-Christian

I appreciate the offer, but I've got the 500.2 hooked up for the meantime and that should do until I found out if the 600.4 can be repaired. I'm hoping so...
I'd go with the RSD line in a heartbeat, but the problem for me is once again, space.

My new sub enclosure takes up 3/4 of the back hatch area, and as far as amps, i've got a rack that is 12" high by 42" wide and that's all the space I have to work with. Kinda sucks...The only other amps I've seen that would work for my space situations are the Alpine PDX line. I'm not too big on them, but if Tantrum problem keep happening, I might have to go down that road.

Getting ready to head out the door to ship off the 600.4 Just a heads up: PG raised their flat-rate repair fees, just in case anyone is planning on sending in something for repair. The listed repair rate for the 600.4 was $135.00, now $155.00. That's about a 15% increase. Honestly, I don't mind since that includes S/H all labor, parts, etc. Try to find another company out there willing to even repair amps they made 7-8 years ago! Hopefully they can get this one bandaged up.

And yeah, I'm not really too big a fan of the Alpine PDX line. I've heard they put out clean power, but they're also pretty cheap as far as build quality. Also, the whole amp stacking feature does nothing for me!

oh great i wonder how much my xenon 200.4 is going to cost. Do I have to have a reciept? I bought it BNIB from a guy in Maryland so I dunno... What did you have to do? Let me know so I can be prepared and get mine FIXED!

Did you buy it from an authorized PG dealer? If so, you'll definitely need the receipt to accompany the amp. If you bought it off the interwebnets or e-bay, I think you're probably SOL. You can always call PG and see what the repair rate for your amp is. I'm not 100% sure if they raised repair rates across the board, or just on the Tantrum line. Anyhow, hope yours gets fixed. I know firsthand what a pain in the arse it is when your gear takes a turd on you. :x

I dunno if they are an authorized dealer. He was selling the amp on ebay, but it ended and i sent him an email asking to buy it from him not thru ebay as to save him fees ect. But i hope I am not SOL and I hope they fix it for me. This amp cost me a lot and its a great amp... I will see what they say when I call 2morow. Did you have your original reciept from your 600.4?

At least the bright side is, I was able to get a partial refund from the dude through Paypal, so I only ended up paying $60.00 total for it. Throw in the $155 service charge for PG to repair it and well, I guess that works out a little bit better. Still feeling a little jaded though...
