Needing 3 way suggestions.

Post by mr tibbs »

Well, now that I am driving the FJ instead of the car I think I might try something different in there. The amp is going to stay (Onyx 200.4), and the back two channels are still going to be going to the sub. So, what I'm looking for is a 3 way set up to be run off of the front two channels of the 200.4. Another amp is out of the question so I'm looking for a passive system. The FJ is dying to be set up with a 3 way system with some 8's in the doors. Anyone know of a 3 way system that is passive and uses 8's for the midbass, and is under $200??

While I don't monitor products and markets closely, I get a feeling that a $200 budget for a 8-?-1 component set might not cut it. You could however, build your self a custom setup using woofers from partsexpress, but the xover would be quite challenging I would think.

I'm sure someone else has much better advice.

Try to find a set of JL 3 way xovers (I don't recall the model name) and then build your drivers using Kicker Resolution series separates.

That's what I was originally thinking using Dayton Audio drivers from parts express, but the x-over is going to be the killer there. I see Hertz has a set exactly like I am looking for, but for like $600. :(

Hmm... maybe you can get something like a PG XVR, then add midbass drivers to your existing components.

Here is what I would like to do:

Mid bass: Dayton reference 8"

Mid range: Dayton reference 4"

Tweets: Dayton Neo tweets

And maybe some passives x-overs like these
So, what do you guys think of that set up?

I believe those are active x-overs, I need passive because I only have two channels of amplification available. I would love to active (like in my car), but I can only put one amp in this vehicle. If it takes more than that it's too much effort for me to play with.

That might work! Do you think I could hook up the 8" mid bass to the sub output of the XVR??

That just occurred to me as well. :( It might just be easier to get a 3 way x-over.

Yep, that's pretty much what we're going for here. I still have a bunch of stuff stashed for the install in my next vehicle, but in the mean time me and the wifey have switched vehicles and I now realize that the FJ needs some attention. It's always something!!!
