TI12 Elite - 2 Sealed or 1 Ported?

Obviously, 2 sealed will be better than 1 ported, but the 2 sealed also takes up a lot of room in my trunk and weighs down my car a lot more. 2 also makes me have no trunk room for a spare tire. I can still fit the spare with 1 sub.

What I have is:
Option 1: 2 Subs at 2500w RMS in 2.8 cu ft. (or smaller) Sealed
Option 2: 1 Sub at 1500w RMS in 1.2 cu ft. Ported

I can probably get a little more room for the ported, but am not sure how to create a port (still doing research on how to create ported boxes). I'm really leaning towards the 1 ported right now since I get to keep the spare tire, can create a amp rack, and have some space for a small trunk! If it sounds close to the 2 subs, I'll take it.

Can someone maybe create a plot of this?

Thanks!

I vote for option 10... One sub sealed at 500w. :P

What subs and amps are you planning to use?

I have two TI12D Elites and a Cadence DCA-2500 which produces 2500w at 1 ohm or 1500w at 2 ohm, hence the two options.

The air space you spec for the ported enclosure seems to be tooo small. The Ti's are spec'd to have 2.25 - 2.75 cu ft. You could run 2 in that same air space with a sealed enclosure. Also, the ported enclosure will end up weighing more then a sealed. (until you add the weight of a 2nd sub). I think your concern of trunk space would be the same in either set-up.

I'ma see how much room I can get for a single sealed enclosure. I would be facing two subs straight back in a standard box, or 1 sub on the driver side of the car facing the passenger side in the trunk. I would then put the amp rack where the dual sub box would have gone (obviously smaller) and make the port go to the hole between the trunk and rear seats (in a maxima... same as the acura TL, will post pics later).

This would make the ported part go inside the car, which I think would make it sound louder to compete with the two sealed.

also, can you put 1500w to a ported12D Elite, or is that too much? I stipud has said that they're fine with 2000 watts sealed, but idk if they can handle 1500w ported.

Oh yeah, they can handle it ported.

I'm with Greg though... I never do ported installs because you can generally fit two sealed subs in the same airspace as a single ported sub. It's usually just as loud, but sounds a lot better that way.

I would say only go ported if you want that extra low end car shaking bass. I recently felt a set up that was ported to 28hz  DAMN But there was like no output in the highbass.

9 times out of 10 I agree with this. Being that I need to let people demo our drivers in ported I have to have ported installs from time to time.

If your wanting to build a slotport enclosure you can use this.

wow, this is awesome... thanks!

I'm gonna try to measure and see how much room I can get and what frequency it would be tuned at with what I have and see if I can actually put this box in.

I might just do two sealed on the two sides of the trunk facing each other and the amp rack at the back of the trunk to leave me with like 1 cu ft of trunk space left, lol.

Subs facing each other will cause lots of cancellation. Not a great idea.

I built a slotport for one of my Ti's. Let's just say 2.5 cubes @ 35hz = loud.

my sub box in my Z also goes through the floor into the spare tire area.

Hey deal.... FYI, try the "quote" button in the top left of the person's post you are trying to quote. It will copy the message into your post and put a grey box around it so it's obvious who is speaking ;)

stipud, if you place them facing each other, they cause noise cancellation? I was told that it doesn't matter which way they face, even if facing each other. Never tried it myself though.
