RSD components on a factory deck...?

Post by shift_grind »

im looking for some new front speakers for my 2000 sierra xcab work truck. I dont want an aftermarket deck, or an amp. its a work truck, but the speakers are really crappy. since its a truck, the cab isn't huge so i dont need a ton of spl. stock has 6.5" components up front and i was looking to replace them with RSD 6.5 comps, anyone try it?

ive noticed the spl sens is only 88db, so im a little hesitant as id like something around 92db or higher with the limited power.

i like the rsd's, so i figured id ask if anyone has tried it.

Anything will be an improvement, but your sound will never get clear like an amp powered system.

The RSd 6.5" comp set has a sensitivity of 91db @ 2.83V/1M.

It's not the 1W/1M rating, however if that is what you were comparing it to which it seems you were.

I wouldn't worry too much. My 6" set gets plenty loud without cranking anything. Unless your factor deck/amp really, really, really sucks.

thats where i saw the sensitivity is 88db. i relieze sensitivity isn't normally a very important spec, but when you want to power it off a factory deck it is somewhat important.

deck is a stock 2000 GM cd player. the speakers in there get plenty loud, but sound like crap. im sure the paper speakers in there are very sensitive to just a little power though.

I bought my RSD's from that same seller. He shipped them out crazy fast. I love my 6.5 RSD's but you might consider buying a cheap 4 channel amp off ebay to power them with. I'm using a Ti 475 zx and giving them 75 watts a piece.

I swapped the standard speakers out in my car with RSD's, highly recommended. It made the biggest improvent to the sound i've done so far, next in order of sound improvement would be adding the sub, then the head unit etc

I ran my RSD 6.5's off of a pioneer deck for a couple of weeks and they sounded pretty good. They do want more power though and I would recommend getting an amp to get the best sound quality and midbass out of them. Take a look at the Ryval series components as they have a higher sensitivity rating than the RSD's.
