I just received a MS275 with one burnt cap..... looks just as new as yours on the outside.... but not on the inside anymore....

were is a good place to get the caps and would i upgrade them??

I get my caps and silpads in bulk local.
Another advice; always change the silpads when changing caps, you really don't want any fets to shortcircuit to the sink, nor overheated output devices because of reduced contact with the sink...

That is just about what i paid (230.00 us) i wasnt sure about the price but i have been looing for one in good shape for some time i couldn't let it go. Now i just need to find a second MPS2240 is as good of shape . any idea if the boards from two 2240s will fit into a 2250 sink??? i want to make a MPS2440 a 4 channel 2240.

yes they will, exactly!

good to hear now i just need to come up with a 2250 heat sink and a 2240. i guess the 2240 doesn't need to be in good cosmetic shape.

I have got both; a new 2250 heatsink, and a mps2240.

Fact1; you don't know exactly how old they are, and really can not tell if they are leaking without desoldering them.
Fact2; you don't want to burn a hole in that beautifull board.
Fact3; it's better to change caps plus silpads.
Fact4; after that you'll be safe, and able to enjoy this gem for another 10 years!!!

I agree, do not even run the risk....replace the caps

I will post a thread soon about the specific problems you can come across when changing caps.
It looks simple enough....until something does not work out as planned.
I'll tell you guys how to check each thru-hole BEFORE placing the new caps, how to repair them, and the best method of getting really stuck fets off the heatsink.
A little supplement to go along with all the info already available on this forum.
For many of us usefull info since we like to keep our oldskool PG-amps alive for years to come.
I am not taking on any work for the next months, will start restoring at the end of summer. [I've worked my way thru more than 200 caps and 360 silpads in the last 6 months].
So when you want to perform this surgery on your amp; be sure to read all relevant info about the subject present on this forum; Stipud just added pics and text about the operation on his MPS 2500, read it!

i know but want to use it so bad ........... going to wait ..... i just pulled my M44 out today as well as my subs ......... i am goin gto be over haling all my amps god this is going to take forever ........ but in the meantime im putting a Tantrum 500.2 to run a single JL 10w3 and my two SA 1.0 to run my 4" comp set in the dash ........ just to have something to listen to

i have 5 small MS amps to do a M50 M44 then ill do my Sa1.0s and tantrum when i pull them back out

Three of my MS amp are new in box (mac200, ms275 MS2250TA 2006 build date ) still need it right due to age ?

No, silpads are not hard to find; it's hard to find high-grade silpads that are affordable....
I order mine by the 200, and use them up in a matter of weeks normally.
LMK if you can't find them; I can send them quite cheap in a envelope by mail.
