No cyclone for me still...
Matt and I feel BAD....
The cyclone he picked up for me local for $400 is...well... useless.
After hooking it up, it produced no sound, and after examining it I found out that the magnet core has desintegrated over the years.
The magnet- material has expanded, causing the [normally moving] core to be solid stuck in the coil. [pics].
So here I am on the other side of the world with a cyclone that's BNIB, and worthless...
Any suggestions/ help is VERY MUCH appreciated.
Nico.

Nico.. I am not familiar with the insides.. but is that fuzzy stuff what you are talking about... the deteriating magnet... just curious so I can speak intelligentally about it when speaking with the shop. I think something needs to be said to the shop, as and like I said it's not only your cyclone but it's one of the amps I got the 603x... left channel is DC. F)#*&^G bullshit.... Lemme see what I can do from this end with approaching the shop.
like i said this whole deal makes my stomach sick.

**Can one of you ask PG about it for me please?**joyride wrote:Wasnt that a common problem with the cyclone? I've never sween one completely seized up before, but i know that the magnets start to break apart and cause problems. Maybe they would have a way of helping you out.
If they can supply me with a new [coated/ improved??] magnet, then I'd be able to repair it myself.
Maybe they have like a "standard repairkit" for the cyclone?
I asked PG for MS series parts several times, but since Phil is gone;...no replys

I NEED HELP HERE GUYS.....
Right now I'm only very dissappointed, and sorry that I did not ask the shop that sold it, to TEST IT FIRST.
I don't blame you for this Matt; you sure wanted to hear this thing, but did not try anything because it was not yours; I would have felt the same.
So... WHO IS WILLING TO CALL PG FOR ME, AND ASK ABOUT THIS?

I will Nico... More than happy/willing to AND I have a good rapport with Matt Jackson there now.... PG is three hours behind me and i wont be back in office until later this afternoon.. but think it'll be good time for me to call.... I'll keep you posted ads I feel terrible about this happening... I should have tested it here, as I had wanted to... but something about it and using someone elses stuff made me feel a little uneasy as I wouldnt want to hook it up incorrectly or something and screw it up... hindsight 20/20 and now probably should have damn-it!

GREAT!
Now don't forget to mention the word "warranty"
After all it's BNIB, never been used; if they have seen this problem before [and I know they have], they will have to admit that it's a production-problem isn't it ?...
Just TRY IT !!
If they have doubts about helping out; tell them I have a stunningly beautifull ,18 year old 60-80-60 daughter who is coming to the US soon to go to collage, and I'll tell her to get over there, and thank them in a very personal way.
[If that doesn't help either, defenately try to buy a magnet].

Hey Nico...
I just got off the phone with Matt @ PG. I invited him to the thread so he could see the pictures of what we are up against and he had good things to say...kinda but nothing to to terribly bad... and the bottom line I got from him is that the magnet is just so so strong that any/every little thing you can ever imagine (all kinds of tiny particles, shavings, etc... stick to it) and stick to it real strong... so he looked at pictures, and said that he is inclined to think/feel that the integrity integrity of the magnet are just fine, but just needs a cleaning, as these cyclones would after that much time. The magnets themselves are built to last 100 years +, SO good news and bad news...
Bad news is that he was unfamiliar with the cleaning process but will be asking (Gus, Wes, someonme, someone I can not remember who...I can't recall exactly who he said) but he would ask for some input from them... but/so the question I asked him was whether or not they had some kind of procedure sheet or something as far as the process to clean them.... i.e. what tools, 1st, 2nd, 3rd steps... he said that he only knows of one guy that knows how to do this, and he will catch him up to speed as to what took place, you being so far away & having some mechanical/electrical aptitude, etc... And see what they can’t work out for you.
But/so looking at the Pictures matt seems to feel confident that nothing is wrong with it, (of course he's not there with it but that's his inclination) and feels confident that the integrity of the magnet is okay and all... just a dirty fucker that needs to be cleaned and cleaned properly... i.e. removed properly, and replaced properly, etc... More to come I'm sure whence he speaks to the individual he needs to about this and catches them up to speed, he will get back to me as he promised.
Hope we're on the right track with this for you Nico! And again I feel terrible about this happening; it makes me sick every time I think about it.

Matt will be poking into the mind of Glen. The PG boys in back still rock.
Nico, as stated the magnet is seized and needs a good cleaning, you can do this a few different ways, but the trick is getting everything apart and put back together.
cleaning methods after knocking the big chunks off with a toothbrush-
compressed air blowing debris at yet another magnet.
ball of sticky stuff that will retain any debris.

I think we've established that "Ka Ka" and "Tukki Tukki" don't work.
Someone else here on the forum had info on how to fix it as well. I'm gonna try to find it...And it looks like Nico's got it taken apart.
Anyway Nico, if you could DOCUMENT your steps as you go....I know someone one the forum was going to, but probably has not been back in a LONG while. He was shown by someone else. Anyway as I said I could use good hints when I have to do mine!

Just got up; good news so far!
I've put the cyclone back together again after my diagnose, so when I receive additional info, I will be happy to help others with a full documentation of the work to clean it, with pics.
I already know one of the problems is to get the magnet out, and in again since it is sooo strong it will tend to pull itself in while shaving the coil.
So I will prob. make a tube of the right size and diametre to guide the core in.
As said before; I already cleaned a cyclone before some years ago discovering the typical problems myself.....
I prefer to wait on the info PG hopefully will provide, so I won't " have to invent the wheel again" so to speak.
THANKS so far man, and THANKS GUYS for the input!
Especially your tip Errin, about how to get rid of those damn magnetic particles is very usefull. [compressed air just didn't do the trick as I remember from last time]
Maybe this will turn out to become a good thing; a sticky about "how to clean your cyclone.."

Now can someone tell me where all those particles come from.....
When that magnet is designed to last "a 100 years" then it is not logical that there is so much debri on it now.
I assume when it was assembled, that it was clean...
There will be additional info needed about treating the magnet with some sort of sealant ,to prevent this from occurring again over and over.
Just came to my mind, that's why I will wait for the PG info.

Waiting so I may clean mine as well. I'll have 6 weeks off for shut down at work from Dec 18th to Feb 3rd.
Plenty of time to work on it.

Great!
Thanks so much to you all for the info, one thing is still missing;
***What about sealing the magnet outer surface????***
To prevent this to become a job needed to be done over and over...?
PLEASE ADVICE so I can start working on the cyclone and before re-assembling, treat the magnet in the correct way.
Nico
