hook it up and see how she sounds; back in the day i had a hcca4225, running an entire system, i think it was down to 1/4 ohm load-so when i say i could fry an egg onit, that was no exaggeration-i just dont remember where it is???? i know its around here someplace-

The original HCCA's were prone to power supply burn up, they would literally work themselves to death. People would install them without a larger enough power cable and inadequate charging system, the amps would continue to draw juice until something would give out. I believe they did not have a low-voltage protection built in. The R version changed this but the power supply was no longer the brute that it was in the original, but there was less failed units.
I would say it is a toss up between the Tantrum 500.2 and the 225r in regard to output and clean power, I would say look at features and footprint to make the decision.
