Guys, i had a brain wave last nite and would like your opinions. K, i own a Cyclone and am thinking off letting it hang off my parcel shelf, so you can see its beauty. Now i was thinking if its hanging and the tube is see through why cant i paint the Veins of the Cyclone in UV Paint, then hide a a UV bulb in the boot and have a cool looking sub at night aswel? Has this been attempted before? would it look poo? anyone with any pros or cons? Pic below to see what im suggesting

You'd probly have to do a full teardown to paint it....which might be a problem. The viens might not like paint...... Once it's done....it's done.... and if you don't like the look, you might be screwed.....

Sounds like a kool idea though......

Maybe some lightweight paint...UV Reactive...But maybe a design or logo? instead of the whole veins?
Might even be easier and you might not need to tear it apart to do it.

think im gonna try it, sure i can paint over it if required, although replacement parts for these arnt hard to come by i hear. Its just a shame for such an unique sub to be hiding away in the dark, i want it to SHINE! Ive taken it apart a few times now, so wud say im pretty good at putting it back together again, keep finding spare screws on my desk tho 8-? But probably unrelated

Parts for the clone are very hard to find these days...... PG doesn't have any replacement parts left as I already asked Matt. Can't says I've seen any around here either........

Also realize if you paint it, you may be putting layers of weight and such. So be careful, also if it flakes or scrapes off, it may get inside...Etc...

As cool as it might be, I wouldn't recommend painting the vane. At least if you paint the outside of the cylinder, you can achieve this without breaking the speaker.

Why not a transparent thin sheet of colored plastic you could wrap around the vane?

sounds risky...a cyclone as it is is ridiculous...anyone you show it to will probably be impressed as it it...and if they're not...they're dumb. better safe and operational than a little flashy and screwed...thats just my opinion.

I am agreeing with the safety thing here. most people are impressed with my clone just at looking at it!

Im thinking it would be the same as painting a speaker cone, added weight is not good. I agree with wakeup... ITS A CYCLONE :metal:

i believe the masses have spoken! Gonna try mounting it with a few neon leds hovering around and see what its like, and if im still not happy then try it. But with your advice i'll leave as a last resort! Cheers guys, post sum pics up when im done, out with the huge box and in with an extreamly heavy shelf to take the weight!

EL Wire might work too...around the edges but you'd have to apply it right so that it doesnt look like a mess. OR EL Tape....

http://www.elwire.com/
http://www.elwirecheap.com/eltape.html

Dont know how respectable these places are up top....I only posted them because they have pictures and descriptions of the materials...seem to be virus and spyware free....dont know anything about them otherwise....

BTW i've worked with both...EL TAPE is flat....and easier to apply...but harder to come by in various colors....

EL Wire is a bit harder to work with...but may be brighter....
And can be seen from any angle. EL Tape is 2 dimensional so you may not be able to see it from certain angles.

Ya .. adding ANY mass to a driver (especially the cyclone) will change it's efficiency and sound characteristics.

And, correct me if I'm wrong, but as I read this you plan to just hang this, free-air, off the rear deck? If so, that also would not be recommended. It will need an enclosure.

First and foremost, give the thing a chance to work properly. Then consider the 'bling factor'. One option would be to do an enclosure with a plexi back that allows you to see inside. Then do what you like with the box to satisfy your need for enhancements.

PS .. EL wire just isn't bright enough to make a dramatic effect on edge lighting. A couple of well placed LED's will go allot further for the effect. I could see doing some etching to the outside of the cyclones clear plexi cylinder and edge lighting that. That would be something I haven't seen anyone do yet.

You mean like i have it at present? lol (see link, if it works), because im getting another Cyclone arriving shortly, i was gonna run the whole boot as my box, jus making sure i seal it properly (infinite baffle or sumtin they call it).

I wouldnt have thought Ultraviolet paint was heavy enough to alter the characteristics of the sub? But then again i have never used UV Paint so wouldnt know how heavy it is. Cheers for the opinions all

Oh ya...you are the one with that cyclone box!
Again I think I said my box was very similar in size. I dont have a huge plexi front like yours, but it's nice. Mine has a Blue LED Light in the box.
But Currently I have it unplugged. I've had to do so much moving around of the box I just said screw it...it's seeable only at night, and the way my current setup is I'd have to rewire power and ground. Just not worth the effort. For me...

DON'T DO IT!

Plain and simple.

Since you've taken yours apart, we have another thread here on how to do it. We're missing pics. Would you like to get some brownie points from us and take yours apart and take/post some step-by-step pics? :D

I am sure that the link you are talking about is the same that we've seen. But anyway, some pics from someone that can explain and document the horrifying parts.....would be awesome! :)
