I'm not personally going, but I will be appearing in the marketing videos for these guys. Look for the scruffy white guy

They work right next door to me. It's definitely an interesting design for a surround sound headphone. The 5 speakers are actually in the headband, and it uses "horns" (the orange parts) to transfer the sound into the headset. Ends up being more convincing than cans that have all the drivers built into the earpieces, and it doesn't require DSP. Unfortunately you lose efficiency with the drivers in the headband, so it requires an amplifier... otherwise it plugs straight into a 5.1 soundcard for its signal (you can run it without the amp but the effect isn't great).
If anyone sees them there, tell them Tom from Wmode says hi

Is 5.1 headphones really necessary?

If yer playing games such as Call of Duty where people are shooting at you from all directions, yes it necessary. Lets ya know where the shots are coming from.

or, if you have balls, and are playing games other than call of duty, where zombies are clawing at your fucking face from all directions.. same deal.

Maybe watching a movie on the computer at home or something. ect ect. They make some very portable amps these days, that will use some double a's, and are very small, so it shouldnt be to bad.. Although You would think they would be able to fit an amp in those things

You see, I've been playing Bioshock at home, and even on my stereo I can tell where the voices are coming from. If they're behind me, the voices are muffled a bit until you turn around, then they're crystal.

They are definitely purpose built for gaming, so sound quality was not a top priority. While they sound decent, they absolutely paled in comparison to my Beyerdynamic DT770's. They do however have substantial bass, with a separate gain knob for it as well (not bass boost!). The prototype amp had burr-brown op amps as well... not sure if that will be in the production model.
As it stands they only have a few pairs of prototypes right now, so I have no idea on price or anything. But they did say once they get some production batches going, I will get a pair to test and review.

Im fairly bad with headphones...I lose 'em break 'em wear 'em snowboarding so I've never invested in a really nice set before...I'd really like to at some point to use in my drum studio for when I play with music.

I can imagine it helped them sell some headphones. Its perfect for 5.1.
I don't mean to talk the game up too much, because i'm really not THAT fond of it. Its short, and even though they claim the AI director makes it "infinitely replayable".. they're wrong. Not enough content!

I am so confused, how can they have received a CES 2009 innovation award, when the show doesn't start for a few more days?
It looks to be a very cool product though. To bad Tripath is not still around, they had some excellent classT amps that would run on AAA batteries forever and had great sound quality. They could have build a multi channel amp right in the cord...
Later,
Jason

Bahaha! I was just walking through the hall and spotted the Psyko guys packing up as they are leaving for CES tomorrow. Apparently they posted the promo video on their website (click on INTRO). My ugly ass isn't talking until about 3/4 into it.
Oh man they took the cheesiest quotes... they asked me to talk like a gamer so I said things like "pure pwnage" and "kill ratio" ahahaha
It's funny too... in the shots of me gaming, I am in a server all alone shooting at the wall, and pretending to have fun. The headphones weren't even connected at that point
