What are the Odds

Post by ssims »

Well today after work i got home and there was a business card from the sheriff's department with a telephone number and an offiers name telling me to contact him
well i called him and he informed me that he needed to come down to the sheriffs office
i showed up and he wanted me to take a look at some photos
and would you know i seen my equipment
Ohhhhhhhhh I was so happy to see this and excited
the officer said that today the guy was pulled over for a dui and now he is in jaill and i pressed charges
the only bad thing is i didnt get everything back
but at least i got some of it back so its better then nothing because i thought for sure i would never see any of it again :) and the bad thing is the guy only lives like a block away
been collecting equipment since the late 80's and on the 4th of jan 2009 my garage was broken into and all i have left is a 1 4x6 speaker out of my work truck not a good way to start off the new year

so back to buying more toys

Well, at least you recovered some of it. That is good news. Hopefully it will make the insurance company a little quicker to respond on the rest of the claim as well, seeing as it wont be as large now...

You can always hold out hope that the guy will spill what he did with the rest of the goods too. At the very least, perhaps you will get some restitution for missing pieces.

It sucks to get robbed. Thankfully I have never been hit. My dad did get hit twice for his refrigeration tools out of his work truck while I was growing up. It is not a pleasant experience from what I remember.

You should invest in a big mean loyal dog. I have a ~5 year old great dane who would happily die for me. She is the most protective, best watch dog I have ever owned. If she's in the truck, people won't even come near it. Windows down or not. Somehow, she knows that her territory starts at about half the thickness of window glass :D She almost took a drunk dudes nose off when he came up to tell me what a pretty dog I had. Fell on his ass backwards trying to get away-- not that there is some funnay shit!

Good luck,
Jason

Im happy for you- just hope, in the future, he doesnt plan on giving you anymore grief!!!!!! I would definetly press charges, he obviously had some idea that the equipment is worth something, and obviously to you more than financial!!! best wishes for you, and hope u get it ALL back!

You know where he lives... go rob him while he's in jail. Maybe he'll change his mind after he sees what it feels like.

Ya I totally understand ssims. I've had my car broken into and boyyyy was I lucky. Long story short, most of my PG Ti Gear was sitting in my car uninstalled and in their original boxes. Ti 1200.1, Ti 900.7, Ti 15 Farad power core, Ti DEQ30, Ti951, Ti 5 comp, and I am sure I had some other odds and ends that was just waiting inside my car. Boy I got lucky that time around...the guy who broke into my car only took a laptop bag that had a broken laptop that I didn't have any money into it! Whew. I got soooo lucky!

One other time longer time ago....Had my other car broken into, and had my deck taken...that pissed me off...but oh well....thats how it goes...

Anyway sorry to hear about you getting bitten. Glad you were able to recover some. Anyway good luck! And I hope you get some restitution! And hold firm with the Insurance company. Don't let them talk you down. Talk them up! God knows they try to rip you at every corner too!

If that's what you didn't get back, what the hell did you get back.

I've only been hit once. My wife went outside to leave for work at 4:00 am, I was already at work-3rd shift-came home early that morning, and saw the driver side window busted out and they stole my Clarion 9175, my kick pods w/the clarion speakers in them and my book of 80+/- CDs.

Now the scariest call I ever got from a police officer was from Michigan (I live in Indiana) stating "Do you want to pick up your car?" I was at a loss as I didn't have a car stolen to report. Come to find out that the car I had traded in just 4 months earlier had been used in a Homicide.  The guy that bought the car never registered the car in his name, it was still in mine.

The kicker on top of that was... I worked w/the guy that killed his wife and fled in the car. :?

Glad to see you got some of it back. I got none of mine back, but I did get a generous check from my insurance company, about $200.00 more then what everything retailed fro. 8)

I've been jacked twice over the years. Never got anything back though....

My buddy Matt had his car broken into and they took everything....2 M50's, an M25, Eq215, MX2, MB Quart kick pods and 1 JL w6-15's...... Almost a month later, same thing..... a message to call the police station. In his report, he listed all of it and added "misc items" at the end. The cops busted a group of teens for B&E and recovered all his gear....PLUS. When he got to the station there were 2 boxes filled with equiptment that had his name on em'. He signed a release form and left. All his gear plus a bunch of wire, accesories, a deck and some other heres and theres. The next day his insurance check showed up too.....

Glad to hear ya got some of it back.

Does anyone know how to have proof of what you own in your car.... or house or whatever, if say you didnt buy it at a retail/etailer, and maybe traded or ebayed or craigs listed bought?

Like.....what take pictures of it installed? or....

Cuz I have ALOT of stuff...almost everything I have is in the same position as ssims. So if I get reamed and get my stuff stolen...I have no way to prove what I had other than my word....or pictures of my installs...but have lots of gear just sitting in the garage....no receipts....etc...
