65cs front but what about rearfill for SUV

Post by 4Nine »

I have the RSD comps for the front, actually I have 2 sets of them and
a set of RSD 6.5 coaxials.

What should I put in the rear door?

If I use the mids from the comps I can use the x-overs that came with.
Or just go with the coaxials?

I would like to use the tweets in the rear but I dont see a good place
to mount them.

I was thinking in front of the mids in the door, flush mounted, but there is a slightly
rounded edge then I was thinking low in the middle pillar??????

I dont know...

i would just do the coax's in the rear with deck power

what amps do you have?

you could try running 1 comp set in the front, and then the mid from the second set as a dedicated midbass!

use the mid and tweeter in the rear why don't you make a bridge like what the older mb quarts did back in the day and mount the tweeter over the mid
or like this
my boston acoustic pro 60
http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fus ... ct_ID=1078
that way you get the sound and use both mid and tweeter

The amp is a x200.4

Bridge, interesting.

So stick with the comps in the rear?

you have the power and a big car
if it was small than I would say don't use rear fill at all
just my 2c

I would do a little trial and error...

Install JUST the mids in the rear door off of deck power. They should taper off naturally into higher octaves. This setup has worked well for me in most cars where the front tweeters are mounted higher. In this case the treble bounces off the windshield and side windows, so you get plenty in the back. Adding more tweeters in the rear would only harm the front stage in this case.

On only a handful of cars did I have to bother putting tweeters in the back in order to get balanced treble in the rear. These usually had the tweeters mounted like coaxials in the front doors, so the treble was low and bounced around less, so it needed a bit more reinforcement in the rear. I would go with coaxials in this case, off of deck power, since headunits do not power component sets too well. If you are running the rear fill from an amp, then you can use comps.

I ran the power and speaker wire last night (my fingers hurt... )
and Im going to mount the rear tweets low in the middle support so that
it mimics the front stage.

Question can I go active with x200.4 or is it better to use the passive
x-overs that came w/ the comps?
Or just buy a x-over for active?

FYI-sub amp x600.1

Active is possible, but unlike the Ti/ZX predecessors, the Xenons no longer have an X10 button for the crossover, so you can't run your comps actively with it. You would need another device to perform the crossover for you, whether it be an external one, or your headunit.

200w is going to be a lot for that tweeter though. You will have to keep gains scaled way back.

Can you please explain a little more? I was under the impression that the Xenon's were better at running comps active. Especially since you can dial in the exact freq.

Yeah I figured if I upgrade I have the power for just about anything
and the price was right for the amp... :D

And heres a pic of the tweet mounted in the middle panel.
Also no way my 6.5's are gonna fit in the rear doors gotta go with 5.25"s..

The highpass crossovers for the Xenon models only go up to 400 hz, which is too low to cross over your tweeters. The Ti/Zx models had a button that could multiply the frequency by 10X, so instead of 400 hz it would be 4000 hz. That's why another crossover is needed to run active on the Xenons.

It can run midbass very well, for sure. Unfortunately without an X10 feature, the crossover is limited to 400Hz. Since component sets cross in the 2-4kHz range, you can't set the crossover high enough to run them active.

On the Ti amps you could set the XO to 300Hz, then press X10, and it would give you a 3kHz crossover frequency, suitable for running comps actively.

The X200.4 would be perfect for something like the Elite 9-5-1 set. Run the 5-1 off the front channels passively, but the 9M could be run active bandpassed on the rear channels.

Edit: oops dwn already answered
