picked up one of these amps on craigslist cheap- 200 bucks.
was super cold out the day i bought it, 20 below 0.

didnt have time to hook it up and test but the guy assured me it was good to go so i took his word for it.

i got around to hooking it up today and as it powers on my subs make a thump, the lights dim in my truck, and the amp goes into protection mode.

has anyone else experienced this? i noticed something about solder joints being weak in various forums which i can handle myself as the amp isnt in warranty.

really dont want to be out 200 bucks and id rather just fix it so if anyone knows what to look for internally please let me know.

First things first, make sure your subs aren't shorted out and there are no stray wires touching any of the terminals.

Disconnect the subs and hook up a multimeter to measure the resistance (ohms) of your sub. If it's near 0, you have a short, if not, it should be good.

ohms are fine, they are 8 ohm but i have the wired parallel to 4.

Yes, but we're testing to see if you have a wire shorted out inside of the box somewhere. A short is 0 ohms, and doesn't make the amp very happy :)

i unhooked the subs and powered on, same problem

multimeter says 4 ohms.

have the amp open now, looks like someone has been in it already, some of the board screws are stripped.

Sounds like you got jacked then I'm afraid.

If you can't get your money back, PG does offer a very reasonable flat rate of repair.

Flat repair cost is $200

Looks like they raised the prices back in November... I remember it being cheaper than that.

Was cheaper. IIRC it used to be $135. I have one to send in myself.
