funny cyclone story

Post by ttocs »

Funny what you remember but a funny story just popped into my head that I thought you guys would like. Over 10 yrs ago I was installing at a shop in southern indian that sold pg. That day was a big day as we were building a box for our first cyclone and looking forward to hearing it play. We had a salesman(josh) that was off that day and was hangin around the bay and while he was trying to help he was really just under foot. We finally put him to work so that we could get a little more done and there was only one simple thing left on the box, cutting the hole. The other installer threw the circle cutting jig and told him to cut the hole for the opening. Josh got to work and we were happy when we heard the saw turn off and he was not bleeding. Josh took a moment to comment about how nice and round the hole was as he went to get the cyclone to fit it. About a minute later as I was in the car doing something, the other installer started laughing hysterically and told me to come look. Josh was standing over the top of the box, mouth open with a WTF look on his face and jeremy could not stop laughing as josh had cut the OUTSIDE of the circle cutting jig. The cyclone was now sitting inside the hole josh cut, a full 5 inches below the top of the box as he had cut the outside of the circle cutting jig so the cyclone fell straight through. I didn't know what to do but laugh and give josh a hard time, a few minutes later we told him he had to fix his f'up and instructed him to cut a new face for the top of the box. He did this perfectly and again with out blood and we were happy as pie until we dropped the cyclone into the box. The plexi sides of it made it perfectly evident what had happened as you could easily see both pieces of wood. This would have worked on ANY other sub made but on this speaker with the price he was paying, he wasn't paying for a f'd up box so we ended up making a whole new one, and never let josh touch a tool again.

I'll never forget at first looking at the box, with the woofer inside of it thinking that it just didn't look right. And then for just a instant when he fixed it I thought everything was good, and then again I thought that something just didn't look right and after that you couldn't look at anything else. He tried to sell it as additional bracing..... He was not that good of a salesman in the install bay.......

Should have put the first on top of the second cut, so that the woofer had the sunk in look!

the cut was made with a jigsaw, it wasn't pretty enough to do something like that.
