New Alpine is in!

Post by neverman »

Alpine iDA-X305 with full iPod integration, album art, playlists etc.

Loving it so far. Had to increase the line driver voltage and still haven't decided if I want the illumination blue or red. I'll have to decide at night while all the BMW dash lights glow red.

It even has some sort of Audyssey Multeq XT support. I haven't read enough to know yet but I think it accepts an external Audyssey eq... I suppose you'd be able to run the set-up like you could for a Home Theater to adjust for the crs acoustics?

No more CD's for me~

Cool!

When I was looking for an iPod deck, this latest Alpine wasn't out yet. Looking over its features, I think I can say this is likely the first iDA unit that would have fit all my requirements (save one, a CD slot). Looks great.

neverman hows those hex's on the 0.5. I heard a set and fell in love. I have considered buying a pair but also want to hear ID's XS comps.

When I bought them 10+ years ago I was in a position to buy anything I wanted, these sounded incredible and won my heart over. They were the very 1st hex series, I think I remember that for some reason. When the install was 1st completed the whole experience just made people smile whenever my stereo got turned up at all. It just had that certain magical musical energy that everyone hopes to achieve.

Sadly my stuff was stolen a fw months after that. Even though I replaced evevrything in the trunk with the exact same models it just never had that kind of performance again. I'm still searching and finally doing something about it.

I have a feeling that my replaced ZXP2 was never functioning correctly from the factory. I'm pretty certain that during that time I blew either the hex's or the passives that came with them. So atm they're sounding a little underwhelming to put it nicely.

If you're talking the old school Diamond's I still think you'd be really pleased. Regarding their newer lines... I'm not that up on seperates but I've heard they kind of fell from where they were? At the time I remember being especially impressed with their tweeter. This was back in the day when tweeters were typically very harsh and "tinny". The Silk Diamond's were so smooth that female vocals would send goose bumps down your spine. They didn't fatigue you at all. The mids had excellent kick and really played loud and tight.

I miss those days. I'm trying to think about how to recapture them...

It's hard to shop for seperates in a store, good luck with your choosing, I'm sure you'll pick a winner. I have no current opinion to offer however, sorry.

they have been making the hex series for well over a decade and I was suprised to find out that they did finally change them recently. There are times when you can remember being really wowed bya pair of speakers and the hex 6.5s really impresses me well over 10 yrs ago. I was working at a shop that sold ID and couldn't imagine anything being any better at the time when our rep came in and told us to take a listen. We didn't expect anyhing out of them but we were slow that day so we rigged them up to the sound board and took a listen and WOW. I will never forget looking at the tweeter(silk) that was hangin by scotch tape with the wire all over the place and the speakers sounded beautifull..... Unfortunatly at the time they had a big initial order so we couldn't talk our buyer into getting them....

I am running hex now in both of my cars(both silk), and making some baffles with enclosures for a buddy back in TN that is putting a set in his mustang. Love em love em love em..... I had to put the tweeter at +2 as they are so subtle but I can't get enough of them.

Yeah... I've been doing some digging. The Hex's I have/had were the German made Eton's. Dark Hex cone material. While doing my web scouring it seems I wasn't the only one smitten with them. Nothing but praise and that's rare. Especially as I remember back and they came out of nowhere. Amazing range on their drivers. Sweet ass tweets. great set.... I want mine back!!!!
