PG DeqComp Problem

Can someone please help me with this.. I have a DEQ-Comp I'm trying to get to link with my laptop.. I have tested the unit with my home computer that has serial.. Works like a champ. I've been through 3 different USB to serial cables so I can use my laptop in the car.. NONE will connect with the PG. I keep getting a error about making sure its a 9 pin straight through cable, not a null modem cable.. I've checked the port config and its right. Has anyone ran a Deq-comp on a usb to serial cable? Please help! Thank you

Dan

from earlier conversations with Erin I think the DEQ needs a native serial port, not a USB. Thats the only reason I bought a Dell D820. The D620 and 520 has native Serial too.

yup, needs to have the 9 pin built in. I was told a PCMCIA card would work, but it doesnt. Thank god you can get an old POS laptop with it for cheap

Well that sucks, if I would have known that I would have sold the unit for something else. I don't have room in the car for larger laptops. The only ones that you can find serial on.. If anyone knows of a small laptop 11" or under with serial please let me know. I need to run the PG and a Zapco DSP6. so need usb as well.

Have you tried this? If so what was the problem you were getting?

i tried it, as soon as I sent the signal, the DEQ got all F'ed up. Stopped playing all together and I thought I killed it. I was not happy. Had to restart it and it came back on fine. From then on, I went with the old laptop with native 9 pin. I just kept it under the front seat.

I just don't have room for for a older laptop or even a standard carpc.. I'm taking up more room then people think I have in the car. 94' Rx7. I've been talking to a guy that knows the in's and out's of a usb to serial cable I have.. If I can't get that to work, Think I'm going to build a Via Pico motherboard carpc. Just have a 7" screen in the glove box, just run a wireless mouse and keyboard.
