Beginner questions- old school 90's system

Post by BigBrent »

I am planning and old school system with a PG M50 and a PG XVR12. Does anyone have any experience with this old school passive crossover?

Just was wondering if there was anything I needed to look out for, especially if I use the M50 with it.. Also looking for values I should use for the center caps in the M50, as I am going to have to re-cap it. I mean the two Big ones... Thanks..

Welcome to the Phorum!

Sounds like a good start to a system, I don't know much about those, but there will be someone here who will so be patient.

In the meantime show us your stuff! Post some pics!

Welcome to the phorum man. From what I think I know of the xvr's the crossover points are dependent on the resistance of your speakers. 2 ohm, 4 ohm, exc... What kind of speakers and sub are you planning to use? I have always wanted to know how one of those work. I would think they would sound great. There are some very wise people here, especially when it comes to PG equipment. You have come to the right place. Someone will chime in tommorow for sure. This place slows down in the evenings, but during work hours it seems to be poppin. Wish I had a job like these guys  Anyway, share your stuff with us. This is a great place to share your hobby, make yourself at home.

XVR12 stats and overall vision

Post by BigBrent »

The XVR12 is designed for a 2 ohm mono sub load with a 12db low pass crossover at 80hz; center channel 4 ohms mono, 6db bandpass filter at 500hz to 3000hz; right and left channels are stereo at 4 ohms, with a 6db high pass filter at 160hz; Finally, we have the rear fill which is an 8 ohm mono load, 6db bandpass between 500hz to 3000hz.

Pictures of both the crossover and the amp will follow, but my digital camera died, and and I am waiting on a new one that i have ordered. As for speakers, I have not decided. I need to find components, coaxes, and a center channel that will live behind the wattage the M50 will feed it. My sub choice is going to be a newer one that will operate comfortably in the 240 watt range. That is going to be a Kicker 12 inch shallow mount rated at 2 ohms. I need this to conserve the space in my truck, as it is a Dakota standard cab without much room.. I was last into car audio in the 90's as I was in highschool so employing the crossover and the amp is very exciting for me. However, I have never read anything about this combo being used, so I thought I might see if anyone was familiar with it.
