Abusing a sub

Ok I asked over on Id's forum since the woofer in question is an Idmax but no one is ever on there and it will be next week before I hear anything. So, Ive been thinking of getting another recone for my Idmax, I have a d4 and would like a d2. Would it cause any damage to the motor to beat the piss out of the sub with my x1200.1? Like I would probably start out with sine waves with it in a box and burp it with as many CLEAN watts as I can. Then if it makes it through that Ill hook it up free air and watch the smoke roll. I really want to take a video of what the woofer is capable of but I dont want to ruin the magnet or anything as the voice coil might end up rubbing on it pretty bad. Anyone know for sure if I can send it thorugh the gaunlet and it be ok will all new soft parts?

If you have a Xenon, why bother reconing? It will work just fine at 2 ohms.

I know lol I just wanna run it at 4. I suppose it doesnt matter. Ok then modified question. I have a VC for it that rubs alittle. And a brand new one. Would it be ok to toast the one thats messed up already?

And to reinterate on my first question, Ive heard alot of people say that xenons like running 4 ohms. And I want the best sq out of it. And I also want to be prepared if I can buy my friends BNIB tantum 1200.1 thats really a 1508.1 @ 4 ohms. I said god damn. Hes got a nice set of tantrum stuff and I would like to buy it from him so he can get something he can ACTUALLY USE, yes I know your reading this, because I think that stuff will jsut sit in his closet and hold the floor down til he dies.

from my experiance if you really cook the voice coil it will come apart and leave sticky burnt crap in the gap when it comes undone. if you are concerned with sq you might want to give a tantrum 1200.1 a listen before you get one. i bought one when they first came out and didnt like it, but thats just me.

personally....and it could be placebo....but i SWEAR i can hear the difference between 2 and 4 ohms on my 600.1. at 2ohms i sounded more strained. tis was back to back on a rsd dvc vs svc in the same box

how much is a recone kit? is it really worth not selling your duel 4ohm one and then buying a whole new sub?

also, what is the motor made of? if its a neo magnet...you certainly will cause lasting damage if you beat the piss out of it

note sure what kind of magnet it is. It is a v3 Idmax. Didnt figure it was neo because of the size and look of it. So I guess I won't be beating my sub like it owes me money. A recone is 190 dollars. New sub is is a bit pricey and I dont think there is much of a market for used ID subs so I probably wont be selling it. I would probably be lucky to get 200 out of it. New one is about 450. I just really wanted to see how far this thing would move.

well I finally heard back from Eric at ID and he said theres no reason the motor would be damaged if I play hard so thats on the agenda this week. So do you guys want to see a video of the Max getting buck nasty? Im psyced, Ive never intentionally pushed a sub to its limits.
