I Screwed up...help wanted w/ 2 ohm subs!!!

Hey all...well I screwed up. a minor screw up, but a screw up none the less.
I just got my RSDc 10's delivered today and was allll psyched until I opened em and saw that I mistakenly orderd the dual 2 ohm subs, not the 4 ohms. So....should I return them?? Im running them off a 600.2 Ti, that is stable at 2 ohms right?? if I keep em would I wire em any different?
What should I do????????

The amp will get a bit warmer, but you may even get ~200w or so of dynamic peaks if you can take it easy on the gains.
Of course if returning them isn't too painful, having the right impedance would be better.
I have a 10D4 I would trade you, but it's in rough shape, and you would still have to find another... so not a great deal.

well, the issue is that I bought 'em on the bay, from a reputable seller but they're in california...im in vt. and I think I'd have to pay shipping to get the 2 ohm subs back to them...have to check....
am I in any danger of hurting my amp with the 2 ohm subs? and is there any benefit, or serious cons to running them???

ok so here's where I'm at. I would have to pay the return shipping and a restocking fee....and thats $$ I just don't have so..I guess im sticking with the 2 ohm Rsdc's. .I've been looking at wiring diagrams all night here and heres what Im seeing.
If I run the 2 ohm, dual voice coil subs in series/parallel than my impedance will be 2 ohms according to this diagram..
http://www.the12volt.com/caraudio/woofe ... p?Q=2&I=22
but this diagram shows a different option that would result in a 4 ohm load.

what should I do?????

the way the last diagram shows your sub, is basically the same as running it bridged at 8ohms.
that is the safest way to run your amp, but you will only see 150watts to each sub with that set up, as opposed to 600+

i think in the long run 2 ohm is better for you. it leaves you more options down the road as far as possibly using one amp per sub etc. etc. as far as running your 600.2 at 2ohm's go for it. i ran a 400zxti at 2 ohm's on my 15's for 8 years no problem at all. i now have a 600.2zxti doing the same thing. i have the gain at half and bass boost about a quarter up maybe slightly less. it'll pound, and as stipud said it'll give you more dynamic peak, aka.... muscle. just remember to have a solid charging system and the big three looked after. you can also wire them for 4 ohm's which is most likely safer. like i said you have more options with 2 ohm subs. good luck let us know what you do and how it sounds.

Bass Boost, Clean Signal's arch nemisis.

jk Ive used bass boost a couple times.... On my walkman. Im sorry Im not ragging on ya Im sure you know the limits of your amp. The source for all my hatred for bass boost is a dude I used to kick it with. Anyone know that guy who turns all the knobs up on his flea market amp until it is as loud as possible, including the crossover.

Ya that guy lived with me for a while. I let him take my truck one time, I had a pioneer deck in it with TA and auto eq. I got it back and everything was jacked up. Thats where the "we dont need no bass boost" mentality comes from. He was a cool dude but he had no respect for accurate representation of music. You know whats funny, I have never heard a bass cube. I would like to hear what those are capable of. I am not against processing. Does a bass cube boost or cut frequencies? Are they used more for ported boxes or can they have a dramatic effect in a sealed box too? I really dont knwo much about them except that they are supposed to be beneficial. Can someone tell me enough about one to turn me on to it. I would like a good reason to pick one up.

umm.... your post has nothing to do with what the original poster was asking. if you would like to start your own post about bass cubes go ahead. i also do know how my gear likes to be played LOUD AS HELL !!! ty move along.

thanks guys for your help. so then... bottom line, wiring schematic to run at two ohms?? the first taht I linked to?? or did yo wire yours different than that stryker?
just remember to have a solid charging system and the big three looked after. you can also wire them for 4 ohm's which is most likely safer.
big three?? not sure what you mean by that
my stock alt. on my jeep is more than sufficient, im pretty sure of that, and while I know its not an optima, I have a duralast gold series batt. that was given to me by a buddy who used to work at autozone, its supposed to be comprable and I've had good luck with it so far.

big 3 is: alt to battery wire, battery ground to body, battery ground to engine block. most people use 4 Ga wire or even 0Ga. your vehicle came with very small and usually inadequate wire Ga. for running a high power audio system.

another vote for 2ohms. get a capacitor and stout charging system, and you should be fine with the 600.2 running at 2ohms

option #2 in the first link.... believe me, you will not be dissapointed. i'm assuming you have an LPL44, that would be a no brainer.

yes I have an LPL44...and I'll give the 2 ohm wiring set up a go...I took a look at the wiring you mentioned and it actually looks decent. Its not as big but close to the 4 guage I ran for the system... if i have any troubles I guess I'll address them unless your telling me I WILL HAVE ISSUES... I have a cap that will be intalled off the 600 ti so that should help like you said. I got talking to a buddy who has put in a lot of systems and he agreed with you guys that it should be fine and that I may make out better this way..

cool, sounds like you should be set.
just to confirm. you have other amps off the 4awg you already ran? you might run more cable. at 2ohms, it would be best if the 600.2 had its own dedicated 4awg or better.

I think he's running 0g to a distro, then to 4g.
Speaking of which, if your distro has room for another device, plug the cap straight into there. That way both of your amps can benefit.

I upgraded the big 3 in my car with 4 ga and was really amazed at the difference. Very easy and will really help your charging system. I have an 85 amp alt and with my x1200.1 working hard I never see it dip below 13.5 on my rmd.
P.S. Sorry about my previous post, that was terribly off topic. I wasnt thinking clearly at the time.

I actually have a 4 ga. run to my d block... its what I had and I wasn't planning on need this much juice till I ordered the wrong subs...
stipud, you you mean putting my cap before the d-block?
so it sounds like I may have less than adequate wiring to run the 600.2 at 2 ohms, is that what Im hearing??
just to check, If i decided to run ONE of the subs would this change anything? help anything? I know it would be loud enough for what Im going for and would save me space too... what do you thinK? I know I keep draggin on with more questions , but I very much appreciate the input.!!
oh and no worries wayne...

Posted: Tue Mar 31, 2009 2:41 pm
by Bfowler
yes, if you are running a second amp off the d-block. i would worry about the 600.2 getting enough juice. if you ran only one rsdc, you would be back to 4ohms and that amp would be more happy.
what stipud means is running the cap out of extra inputs on your dblocks. (if there are any

ok ...now the question is...is one sub enough?? now I realize IM the only one who can answer that...but you guys have run these before...how hard will one hit off the 600 ti??? right now Im almost leaning towards running one and selling one to recoup some $$...

if i had just bought the right subs...

still not sure what im gonna too though

your gonna run em both

..... don't sell nothin. you got em now enjoy em both together. one will be lonely without it's mate.

I feel ya stryker,, jsut don't want any power issues...cause I can't afford any at this point ... my system budget is wasted...Im jsut glad I got what I needed for the money I had.

don't worry, as long as you have 4 Ga wire at minimum, and good grounds and 4 Ga from your alternator to battery you will be fine. thats what i've had for the longest time. it has always given me tons of volume and no issue's with my electrical system. do you have a capacitor? if not let me know i may be able to help you out....
