Dear All PG fans...

I owned 4-units of PG MAC200 for more than 15 years...
And I think it's time to change the capacitors since I found 2-types of caps in a local shop that matched the spec of SPRAGUE 10,000uF 40VDC +105deg-C..

There are 2-types of caps: DENON 12,000uF and NICHICON 10,000uF...

I could not make a decision which caps should I choose,
Is anyone here please be kindly advise me which caps should I use?
Maybe someone here already had an experienced which these caps...

Yup...the Subs are MTX Black Gold BG-104A from 1996...and still running goods...

Actually I'm using aldskool gears except the HU:
Head Unit: Pioneer DEH-P880PRS
Amps: 4-units PG MAC200
Fronts: Boston ProSeries 6.4 2-ways (Bi-Amp)
SubW: MTX Black Gold BG-104A

And last year, I won 3rd-Place in "iHEAR" (Indonesian High End Audio Reference)...it is a national car audio competition in my country....

Are both the Denon and Nichicon rated to 105 degrees+ ??

If so, I'd use the one which has a higher rating (Denon) providing that they have the same dimensions as the original caps.

Yes...both caps are rated +105deg-C...

Actually what is the differ/effects to the sound ouput if I use a bigger or smaller caps than the OEM manufacture?

For example, the PG is using 10,000uF...

if I use a smaller caps like XPRO 4,700uF, is the sound will be differ? More liveness, less low freq but more open in high freq are or what else?

compare to, if I use the DENON 12,000uF, is it less liveness? more low freq? less high freq?....confused

A friend of mine told me that to drives the TWEETER & MID is better use 6,800uF to gives more open high freq and more liveness but less low freq...and to drives the SUBW better use 12,000uF...does this makes sense to you?...couse I don't really know about electronics....

you want to be sure that the voltage reatings are consistant...
providing that (40 v to 40v) then matching the capacitance can be equal or you can go up. I am unaware of different capacitences being better SQ for different frequencies... but over all, it wont make that much of a difference, If anything you would want to increase capacitence, if anything... AND Caps have to be what 30MM tall to fit properly.

Those caps do not look like the right size at all... For the rail caps, you need to search for a 35x35mm capacitor, 105*C rated, with the same voltage as your factory caps (in this case 40V), and the highest uF rating you can get.

I also had 40v capacitors in my MPS2500, but I could not find 40v replacements, only 35v or 50v. I talked to a tech at PG, and they informed me the rail voltage of the amplifier was really closer to 32v, so I went with the 35v cap.

Now, the rail capacitors are not the ones you NEED to replace. They can probably last another 10 years or more. The real problem capacitors are the INPUT caps... the three small black ones next to your rail cap.

Those should be 16v rated 105*C caps, 18x31.5mm (but you can fit as tall as 35mm). Here are some possible options:

i would like to get som sil-pads too... all the ones I have found (havent looks so so much) but found that a minimum of 4000 sil pads are required for ordering... cant do that many

I can order them by the 100.
If anyone needs amounts like that, LMK, I'll not ship all kinds of envelopes containing 20-30 silpads, don't have the time for that, sorry.
100 silpads costs 28 euros, shipping only a few euros more.
These are grey, high quality ones, coming in one size; fits all fets used in the MS-series, for the smaller devices simply cut them to the desired size.
Always clean the sink with care, and always replace all sipads.

Why don't you ever add these part numbers to my Digikey Part Numbers thread ?
Maybe put a Sticky on it..if we get enough part numbers on there

So...is it true the 10,000uF caps still can be use for another 10 years? Considering it already been used for 15 years...???

Yesterday, I changed the 10,000uF caps with 4,700uF...just curious wanted to know what the sound looks like...IT LACKS OF LOW FREQ...the MIDBASS sounds a bit thinner than before...

All the jobs of the amplifier will be done by my employees since I'm too busy working in the office...car audio is my hobby since high school, all the sound tuning & setup were done by myself...last year, I helped my friends installed & tuning his car and he won 2nd Place...he's using Pioneer ODR system...the sound is really really good....

My MAC200 is already too old, I bought it in Sydney when I studied university in 1994...now it needs new refreshment inside...but it's not comparable with your powerful MS1000...hehehhe...so how it sounds Mr.Rush1?...Pak Handy told me that the tonal is very nice and mellow...
