Hey guys I have been reading/researching a lot about what sub to buy. I finally decided on the RSDc122. That lead me here and i have been doing a lot of searches and reading lol. I decided to make a ported box which getting the demensions right is kind of confusing. From what I have read on here the ideal volume is 2-2.5 (Is this internal volume?) with a port that is 3x8+. I was trying to design my own box, but i have never been one for injunuity lol. Anyone got a design they used that works for one of these? Limits are max W=30 H=15 D=20. I have tried a few programs, but with the port Hz and length i get lost Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Keep in mind that the space inside the port does NOT count toward the internal volume. You also have to consider the air displaced by the subwoofer, as that too reduces the internal volume.
Neglecting the very little things like that can result in a horrible box, where the ports actual tuned freq can rise into the 40's or 50's.
From what I calculate, (assuming .15cuft sub displacement) the volume is 1.62cuft and the port freq is roughly 32hz. As it stands the box would be a pretty good match for the sub, but I would try lengthening it to the 30" you have available. That would give it a little more internal volume & lower the port freq.
Thanks 4 the input, but i dont get how this box is a good match for the sub when its nearly a whole cubic foot off of what is recomended?
Well i designed a box im going to make unless anyone tells me its bad lol. BOX:L=30 W=15 D=15 PORT:W=2.25 L1=12 L2=20. In theory its 2.35 cubes at about 29Hz before the sub displacement.
Well the box is built and everything installed. With just 1 RSDc12 and a Hifonics 600watt amp it gets pretty loud lol. This is my first sub and box, but to me it sounds good. Now I just gave to work on zero'n out the amp settings.
