CDT Eurosport ES-642i GOLD - Opinions Please

Post by ShockTherapy »

Hi everyone! I picked up a nice 3-way component set and I would like your opinions. I got the set for a great deal so after installing them if I don't like them I can sell them for more than I paid. My Silverado seems like a good candidate for a 3-way setup and I'm hoping the tweeter agrees with me. In case you're wondering, I got the set for $250 shipped in really nice condition. Here is the link to the auction...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... K:MEWAX:IT

Some personal experiences as well as any other knowledge of the set would be helpful. I would be driving them with my Arc 4150CXLR bridged to 2 channels at 320x2. Headroom baby! anyhow... lemme know.

Hey bro, im sorry to say I dont have much useful input. I just wanted to let you know I have been wanting some real deal reviews by real people. Please let me know how they sound if you decide to use them. I have read a bucket load of good reviews linked from cdt's website but nothing else. Nice price on those man.

That is an insane price. Are they stolen?!

These are my favorite in car speakers. Enjoy!

Nope! They aren't stolen. A guy traded in his car and only had room for a 2-way. I offered him $250 shipped and he took it. I was like umm, REALLY? I'm watching the UPS tracking number as we speak.

I'm trying to get some ideas on the install. I'm going to place my tweeters high in the doors since I already have my old ones there. The midbass and 4" will of course be sharing the stock door location. Oh yeh... this is a 99 Silverado. I'm pretty stoked about getting them.

MORE OPINIONS PLEASE. I'D LOVE TO HEAR FROM SOMEONE WHO HAS THEM INSTALLED OR SOMEONE WHO HAS HAD THEM IN THE PAST.

I used to run the ES06 mid bass and tweeter in two way. My new instal is the 2010 models in three way, with ES06, 3" and 1" tweeters. What do you want to know? They sound very natural and have exceptional mid bass ability :)

If you need a copy of the x-over manual let me know. The settings of volume and EQ for drivers can be adjusted.

Can't wait to instal them. If you've ever heard Dynaudio they are similar but with more low end extension and kick ass mid bass impact.

I've built some damn solid sealed enclosures for the mid bass, small sealed pods for the mids and am deciding how to mount the tweeter. It'll be right next to the 3", but not sure whether to have it floating near by or on a shared baffle yet.

Yeah, you'll have some serious fun with them. A guy in Australia done a review on the Eurosports and he hasn't heard anything like them. I'll try and dig up the review.

Wow! You guys have me pretty excited! Im going to be bridging the arc Audio 4150CXLR to 320x2. I have a feeling that this is going to sound fantastic. I'm also installing 2 new IDQ10.v3 subs in a new sealed enclosure this week. I'm switching out my QSD set and adding new subs. I'm all giddy inside! woohoo. Check out the enclosure! It has a 1.5" face and is 3/4 all around. The inside is even coated with 1/4" of cured fiberglass resin for stiffness. The raised IDQ logo adds a lil personalization to it. :hurr:

I love PG! I actually have 2 M25 amps, a few Ti 4-channel amps, An M100, M44...I had the Zero Point 0.5 but after installing I realized that it was too big for my application. Just because you don't see PG in my Silverado doesn't mean you won't see it in my other cars. I have a new install planned for my daily driver... I'm looking at using my 2 M25 amps on my front DLS Iridium 2-way components. and the M100 to run a single Image dynamics IDQ12D2.v3. This will all be going into a 97 Honda Prelude SI. I'll be using an Alpine CDA-7998 as my source and an Audiocontrol 4XS to run this all active. I come to this forum because not only is this a Phoenix Gold forum, It's a forum full of real old school knowledge. I'd like to continue getting to know the guys on here and learn as much as I can from you all if you don't mind. :D

werd, ill drink to that. on top of that i woul like to retract my previous statement. taking a second look at your box it looks like you are going under rear seats. two 10's is probably going to be all you could do unless you decided to go with some of those pancake twelves that i imagine probably sound like...well...pancakes. :P

Actually I could have gone with twelves. I had enough depth but chose 2 10s. I've always felt that 10" subs were a little better suited for sound quality. and when it comes to turning it up I couldn't really ask for much more. I'm running 1100+ watts into those IDQs and they are incredibly load and accurate. This is one of the best subs that I have ever heard. The CDT ES line in fantastic and is very similar in performance but gets a tad louder. I went with .75 per side and wow! When I first powered up the enclosure and set my gains I was blown away. I put in Sheffield Drive(Audiophile Reference CD) and the tonality and precision literally made my eyes well up. This is the first set of subs that I haven't had buyer's remorse after purchasing. "other than my 2 SS10 Soundstreams, but they are in my closet with an armed guard manning the door.

right on, i could believe it is plenty loud enough, especially for a balanced sq install. i have to admit that sometimes, though i love accuracy, i like to beat up my own guts with bass. :P

Just got them in the mail!!! They look friggin NEW! My gf got pissed at me because I was out in the living room staring at the components and not coming to bed, lol. These things have great build quality! I'm very impressed. I plan on installing them this weekend... I'll upload pics after I'm done.

ya know the red rings was always a turn-off about those speakers. I know that they would show through the grills on either of my vehicles and it would bug the heck outta me...... Great sounding speakers though...
what else can I say I am a grumpy asshole most of the time.

It depends upon the grills. Some hide the basket colour completely, if there is a gasket ring that sits on top of the chassis lip. These do and are very well made too:

Hi Kub... I'm having some issues tuning my eurosports. couldyou give me some advice on that? the 300cc crossovers and 500 series upstage crossover modules have me scratching my head. What settings are you using?

I have no idea on the upstage as I don't use one.

My 300 x-over was set to flat in the end on all the db settings (zero NOT +1 or -1). But that will depend on how you like it, or where your speakers are mounted too.

The midrange point was set to "high", (NOT "maximum range" !)

I've now ditched my CDT mids and tweets for point source :)
