Need some help Identifying those subs.

Post by n3v3r4o »

Hi guys I'm new here, greetings to everyone and sorry in advance for my poor english.

So straight to the question. I have two 10" subs PGs, but i can't identify them, because they are old and there are a lof of models that look like that in the internet.
The only things written on the back of the subs is ""104 4ohm"" and the picture of them is at the bottom. I'm running them with a old MTX 280 amp (bridged) and they are having no problems, but the amp is overheating so I will probably buy a Infinity Reference 310a to power them. So my question is are they QXe or QX 104 and how i can find out, cause QX are 125W and QXe are 150W (I think) So please correct me if i am not right about something and also i will appreciate opinions about the INFINITY that i want to buy. The enclosure is sealed. Thank you in advance and sorry if i ask a stupid questions but I'm really new in this.

P.S. I measured the Ohms of each one of them and they are closer to 4.5 then to 4.0.

they could also be tantrum 10's. the infinity 1300a is just fine either way.

I thought the tantrums had the tantrum design for the cone, not flat but the ridges?

They definitely look like QX104's. From back in 02-03'ish

The first gen Tantrums looked a lot like these. The major differences between the two lines were that the Tantrums had a bigger motor structure, rubber surrounds (foam on the QX), and a rubber trim/gasket (coark on the QX)

I think you're thinking of the 2nd gen Tantrums. Those had the dust cap that looked like a Tantrum amp heatsink.

Yep! Second generation were called TantrumX. Looking back, those subs foreshadowed the times to come for PG and their Xtreme cosmetics! A year or two later we hit the low point with the "tuner-inspired" accessories for amps. As if I really needed another reason to hate the Fast and the Furious!!
