just yesterday I was looking for a 3mm drill bit and was cursing that all the hardware store had was standard sizes. When I was in school we were told that probably in my lifetime the US would switch to metric and I have been wondering why we didn't ever since fractions in 3rd grade..

funny enough I mentioned to my mother that I remember being told in gradeschool that we would eventually switch over to the metric system probably in my life time. She laughed and said they told her the same thing when she was a child.....
