Another R-66 system (RNET) tuning question

Post by orendamz »

Hi, guys. I installed two classic route 66 "dream" amps in my boat. I know boats and old school amps not a great mix but I did spend the time to conformal coat the boards so I personally feel they'll be fine. That's not my question; Here it is:

What RNET values are needed for the for the following speakers:
6 Bose 131 marine speakers
(two are in bow seat area, two in helm firing into cockpit, and two in center of vessel firing into cockpit)

2 MB Quart Marine series (coaxial) speakers under rear bunk firing into cockpit

2 Bazooka Marine series subwoofers firing into cockpit

I am following the old school wiring schematic from PG that shows the following components which I DO have already installed:
30 Band EQ
406A Xover
204A Xover
TBAT

So:
The components are such that the TBAT via RCA's connects to the EQ which then feeds the 406A xover and then a signal goes from there to the 204A xover. The 204A xover is said to be used as a "center" channel configuration.

Please tell me what the recommended RNET values should be. Right now, the crossovers each have 90 and 125 Hz IC's in them. I already know how to calculate them; that is not my question. I simply would like to determine what IC's you guys would install; I'll source them or build - no problem there.

I do have a real time analyzer and will be setting this system up soon.

As for the Bose 131 they are a "full range" driver but only 4.5" so not necessarily capable of much base; that is what the subs are for.

What Fz would you send to the Bose speakers?
The MB quarts are a coax midrange with tweeter; what FZ would you send there?
The subs probably would want the 90Hz down correct?

It is important to note that the configuration of all the speakers is simply as follows:
The two pairs of bose speakers are arranged so that they are my "Front set".

Center set of Bose and MB quart coaxials are the "REAR SET".

The subs are simply located in the boats gunwhale areas (one each side) and are controlled via the LPL44 knob ve3ry nicely.

Please advise; sorry for lengthy email. Again, just want to know what Fz that I should be providing.

I am thinking set up the speakers so that they get a "bandpass" to all the speakers except the subs; set up the subs so that they produce the 90Hz and down Fz range. Done
For the bandpass PG says that you would select 80Hz-6KHZ; referencing their documentation; sorry I do not have a link to that doc at moment.
Thanks!

can't you just use the built in x-overs in the rt66's? would make life a whole lot easier?

as to using the Rt 66 crossovers here is the thing.
First I sourced the EQ and the two crossovers. After extensive installation\; that is wiring and component install I firmed up the amps. Possibly it was an oversight by yours truly but the PG install digram suggests 4 amps for the system. They show 3 mid/tweeter amps and 1 sub amps. My next best thing was to use two R66 amps as there are then 4 total amps. The R66 does have individual connections and power wiring connections so in my mind they are essentially independent amps.

Just needing anyone who has done the PG install using the TBAT/EQ/406a/204a/ plus 4 amp install to chime in. Lastly although PG do use the 204a for the "Center" mono with "one" RCA cable I am running two cables; nothing drastic; My bow speakers are essentially in the Center anyhow! If you draw or consider the centerline of the boat they are at the narrowist point.

So not wanting to toss las answer but need to know; what IC's would you drop in. Gottcha that you can make things a lot simpler using the crossovers in the rt66; as said...amps installed after the initial three other components.

Marko has done a couple set up like that he had 2 outlaw in his car and many ms amp let him chime in
remeber the r66 is a 6 channel not a 4 channel so i would just add a sub amp

I think you should be OK with the standard 90 and 125hz chips, 125hz for the smaller 4.5" drivers should be OK.
