Cut off the excessive polyester matt and started to sand the door. Ran out of synthetic resin filling compound and since i´m living on Mars where all shops close early saturdays that´s it with progress for today. At least i managed to test fit the whole thing inside the car. It´s still holding on the door with only the original clips from BMW.

Re: 1997 BMW 525tds Touring Oldschool Install
I had that same concern of weight with my door panels planning the Ti9's. BMW's are obviously put together alot tighter then the average ford so I would suspect you will have no issues. I have decided to make an enclosure that will bolt to the door, and the door panel will just go over the top. The majority of it will be cut out to show the speaker and the enclosure so it will lighten up the panel while making the door heavier of course.
How are you going to finish them? Vinly or texture coating? If vinyl leave a good amount of room around the door-pull/arm rest as I am always suprised how much thicker it makes things when you finally put them all back together.

From all the installs i did this car is the most fun one to work on. Every cover u take of is easy to put back on and still stays in place. Every bolt u loosen is holding together as it did the first time after retightening it. I only broke one clip during all the work so far.

shit after starting my install career in the midwest workin on ford/cheby/dodge farm trucks I was use to most panels almost falling off before I got to them. When I started working in Scottsdale I had the worst time adjusting to bimmers. I was sure I was pulling on the panel hard enough that it was about to break before the other guys would show I just needed to yank it harder.... The transition to ferarri's was even worse when I could not find the door handle to get into the 355 we had to work on. Also had a HELL of a time figuring out how to open the fuse panels on the Rolls Royce that came in there. I was not an amature installer, just an amature import installer....... Had lots of funny WTF!? moments in the bays in scottsdale

I hear you ttocs.. I hate grabbing a door panel and yanking on it and feeling Im almost gonna break it....but that is Quality when you go from chebbies to beemers to ferraris!! The quality shows!!ttocs wrote:shit after starting my install career in the midwest workin on ford/cheby/dodge farm trucks I was use to most panels almost falling off before I got to them. Didn´t have a lot of time to work on the car during the week but at least i managed to get all the MDF cut to size at my carpenters place. Plus i´ve been shipping a ton of stuff today and surprisingly got a package from the post office in return. Came from mhyde71.
I guess i got enough distros for the install now.

After almost 2 month of having no time i finally had a chance to work on the car again.
The passenger door is done just the original door handle needs some cleaning attention.
And next weekend i´m going for the drivers side door

Nice work man! Is there an enclosure for the mids at all, or are they just screwed to the door panel? I feel like vinyl or some other finish might look a bit nicer than that carpet, especially on the doors. The flash probably makes it look worse than it is in person.
Re: 1997 BMW 525tds Touring Oldschool Install
The enclosure in the door is 6,5 liters and should serve them mids very well. The carpet is actually velours and looks better in person than on the pictures. I just wanted to keep it simple as possible, thats why i used it. Better to spend the money on more important stuff...

It´s been ages since i had time to work on my car but i finally finished the front stage. The seat cover of the driver seat will be replaced soon and the remote from the Basscube will get integrated into the center console. I also have a voltage dislpay but no clue yet where to mount it.

Wow, personally i think he has done a rather clean job of upgrading the stereo system. Then again, i dont know how anyone could drive ANYTHING stock without making some changes to personalize their ride. Maybe thats just me.Autosom wrote: you completely destroyed a car.
