It was years ago that someone on here got concerned and replaced the caps on his octane le. Can't remember who it was but I thought he had founds either some leaking or bad solder joints? I can't remember who it was or the details but at the time it was enough to get me concerned enough to have him order the same caps for me and they have been sitting waiting to go in now for years I think. I finally decided to replace them as it is being sold and got started on it this morning. I think I counted 21 screws needed to be removed to take the cover off and 5 different sizes just to make things easy. Maybe you have a great memory but if you are like me just get a piece of tape and tape it down so the sticky side is up. Now when you remove a screw just stick it to the tape directly next to the hole, the screws on the top of the cover are on the top of the tape and the ones one the front are on the bottom. Some of these are only slightly different but enough I know it would matter but this method makes it easy to get them back where they belong.
There is a small board on the back that has some pins that need to be desoldered to get access to the back of the caps solder joints. Once it is off I removed the solder with my desoldering iron and then now its ready for the new caps. The caps at the top you could see had become discolored and you could see where the sun had bleached it out as the mesh that is in front of them can be seen. With that being said there was nothing wrong with any of my caps or the solder joints so in this case it is better safe then sorry but I would rather say that then "AH HELL!?#$" and then some if a cap did go up.

It was Thunderdome his blue caps went up in smoke but the amp kept working I sold it to him got the amp from Jeorg
I talked to him he has not repaired the amp yet
My question is the smaller caps on the zxti amps
Im told they still used the old caps where the true ti amp used new caps
most of my gear is gone :liar:

after looking back at it eric says the Ti line is ok. I checked them for leakage and everything is dry under them so I really don't see the need to swap them out. If I had them here with me I probably would but I don't think its worth chasing them around now

I've had a couple MS 2125's that have had leaky rail caps (blue caps) some to the point where it damage the plexi's silk screening. I would definately replace them, especially if you already remove them. After all they are over 20 years old (1995 date code).
I can probably get a pic later. It looks like they just took a basecube board and with some 1/4" stand offs stuck it on the bottom of the cap board with some jumpers to connect to some other parts that are on other boards. It was a royal PIA to get the jumpers all lined back up to go through the holes. This is the back of it with the cube removed and you can see the jumpers at the top

wow, nuts. id replace those caps for sure, especially if you want through the trouble of removing them. i saw on facebook that someone got some nice looking audio grade caps. Not real exited about those for this purpose as they are only rated up to 85* not the 105* that came stock. I'm sure it would be fine but I'm paranoid about that. either way, id change them for sure at this point.
A few of these and a few of those.
