IIRC the epicenter was designed to reproduce bass for records, and the bass cube is actually designed for use with cd's and the such. Give me a second I'll see if I can find that sheet.

Yep, I kinda figured, but that is where I got my info. I have a bass cube, but have yet to install it.

I actually know a guy thta has an old basscube in his basement but doenst have a cable. How hard are those to get?

The cable will be easy to replace. The adjustment knob will be very difficult to find.

Hes got that.. He has all the stuff I didnt buy when I got " the hemi in the barn "

Also if you do a search on this forum, epicenter and bass cube...you should come up with a few review's or comments on the differences etc.

I have owned both, I no longer have the epicenter. But I am one of a few people trying to track down a new remote. I have a custom made cable but my remote knob is dead and I cannot seem to find one that is not connected to a working Bass Cube. I would really like to put it back into service.

I run an Epicentre in front of FAS. Outstanding device. I have many Bass Cubes here, but have yet to install one in a functional system. When I get my car from storage later in the week, I will try a Bass Cube in place of the Epicentre and do an analysis. Standby.

as far as I know it will only do VERY limited things without the remote...
There's a couple of Pot's on the inside of the cube that you can adjust but that's it otherwise...

Anyone know much about this piece? From what I've read it seems like an epicentre in terms of the processing it does.

I am interested in the results between the epicenter and the bass cube as well. I have an old epicenter that I am not currently using. I would like to know if it or the bass cube would be better at "adding" base notes to old beatles music, etc.

They are 2 very different pieces.

The Epicenter was created originally to 'add back' low frequency lost during the recording process. As the theory went, the early days of digital recordings were very steril. Engineers used the same process to record in digital format as they did with analog recordings. Back then vinyl records could not handle extreme low frequency because the grove cut in the vinyl to reproduce low tones would actually cut through the vinyl. That and the fact that the rumble of needle to vinyl added low content during playback, the recording techniques eliminated alot.

The Epicenter added back low frequencies by adding harmonics in the lower octaves of the program material. Artificial and often damaging as well.

The bass cube was a essentially a 1 band perimetric EQ with a subsonic filter. designed to maximize speaker and amp power. It has a switchable fixed or tracking subsonic filter that would block lower, supposedly unused, frequcies from entering the signal chain. thereby providing speaker protection while freeing the amp to give up its power only in the frequencies that are being used.

Ideally with the bass cube, you could find the desired frequency that was the strongest in your particular set-up, boost it, then impart a subsonic at 1 octave below killing off anything that would otherwise be considered wasted power.

SOOO..

Epicenter = adds artificial harmonics (that today's recordings don't need)
Bass Cube = Maximizes sub system to car output capability.
