Pheonix Gold 200.4 took a crap on me

Post by bommy »

Welp, I was listening to my system today and all of a sudden I hear this loud ass screeching noise coming from my 200.4. At first I thought it was my headunit. I disconnected all the RCAs and the noise still persisted. I then thought my ground which had been good for the last 6 months was too long. I cut it in half and still the noise persisted. I disconnected all speakers and tested them individually (I thought the speakers were shorting out the amp).

I then hooked up an old class A amp I had lying around and everything sounded perfect. I plan on taking the 200.4 apart to see whats up. I think it may have over heated or something. I would appreciate any input. Thanks!

If you don't know what to look for or how to find out whats wrong............I'd say don't bother. I'd send it in to PG and pay the flat rate and they'll send ya a 100% functioning unit.
Those tender little burgers with them little, itty-bitty grilled onions that just explode in ya mouth like flavor crystals every time you bite into one.. just makes me want to burn this muthafuka down.... Come on, Pookie, let's burn this muthafuka down!!!

that noise is usually accompained by a blow driver too.

how were you running the 200.4? 4 channel, 3 channel?
for it to suddenly crap out makes me think a short existes somewhere in the system

I took the cover off to look for any obvious signs of damage. I didn't see any blown caps or anything. Although i'm studying electrical engineering, I'm not gonna mess with this. I'll probably just send it to PG.

3 days ago the plastic cover to the positive terminal on my battery came off and essentially melted a little bit of the metal under my hood. Do you think this could produce a short in the system somehow?
