The specs look rediculous, stipud feel free to graph if you want. For anyone that hasnt seen it, here is the link. I have never ran sealed subs in any of my personal cars, but I am really tempted to hit the buy now button The price is great.
good stuff...i've never ran ported ....that thing is a beast..."hope you gotta big trunk, cuz im gonna put my 18" sub in it"....or bike..whatever that guy said
what if the hokey pokey really is what it's all about?
I am a little skeptical based on the motor topology and who is behind it due to what happened with the prior company. And now that these drivers are built somewhere else after the massive failure debacle of the last run of Adire drivers, it also makes me uneasy. Notice they make a point of stressing:
"The factory we use is ISO Certified and our defect rate is INCREDIBLY low, each driver passing a comprehensive set of Q/C test before shipping."
Now if failure was ever an issue would you need to state that on the product page?

No.
Can you elaborate on this a bit for me? Adire woofers used to be the top dog, and everyone was ranting about XBL2, but then they suddenly decided to close shop. I didn't really follow why or how that came about, but I am very curious if you've got any insider info

The Fs [17 Hz] looks allright, but the sensitivity of just over 88 Db-1w-1M....... you'll need a HUGE AMP to get this thing coming to life !!!!
My old Cerwin's had 96Db-1w-1M......
Who cares about efficiency in this age of powerful amps. Those old strokers were nice, but this maelstrom should be able to destroy it with ease on the lows, plus the strokers arent designed for sealed boxes. I dont recall anyone running them that way, and them sounding good (correct me if im wrong).
Ofcourse there are many powerfull amps on the market nowadays, but they also need a lot of current; you'll need the appropiate batterie[s], big alternator[s], wires, etc. , making it all a lot more expensive.
The advantage of only needing a small enclosure DOES however have it's benefits for us caraudio-guys...
the build quality is very good on the exodus drivers. I own the tempest and like it pretty well, in an IB setup. it does roll off pretty early though, which suprises me. I would look at the graphs on the white papers if you can find them and make sure they will fit your needs.

Yes, the initial few runs of Adire drivers were excellent. But the later runs had rms ratings that were higher then they should have been and durability was an issue. The failure rate was higher, many people could not get their drivers re-coned or the ones that sent their drivers in for repair never got them back. The drivers were built in a new build house and apparently the quality went down some.
It is a shame carstereos.org is down, everything was documented on there over the years. I am not bashing or bad mouthing, just stating what happened. Adire closed, but Wiggens is still doing speakers, I believe his new company is ADI, plus there are numerous companies using the XBL2 topology, DIYCable, CSS, Mpyre Audio, Stereo Integrity and a few others. I think Mpyre close up because of the problems with the build, but I am not positive on that one. The interest in their drivers were high because they were the next coming of the (at the time) recently removed from market Adire Koda mid-bass.
But in reference to the failure statement on the DIYcable site, I would assume it stems from the end of Adire and the issues that occurred and the number of people upset or screwed over from drivers that were not covered. Dan Wiggens is a good guy, but he has fallen off the map as far as his presence in the car audio world. He did contribute a great amount of informative data to the car audio world. But his business tactics I think bothered a bunch of people and they still hold that grudge to this day. So now there are a number of small companies that have slotted in where Adire left off with very similar products built over seas now. The guys at DIYCable and CSS are solid guys, and they sell a good product. It is strange because much of what seems like the old way of Adire in their product release and way of releasing information to the public has come back through Stereo Integrity now, (but that is going off track here).
Personally, I was an Adire admirer for a while, but never could find an XBL2 driver that had the sound I really loved (out side of one RE - XXX 12 in a monster sealed box with about 600 watts on it). They just have too dry and lifeless a sound for my personal tastes, much of it comes from the steeper roll off then I prefer. That is never more present then in the way our (SSA) drivers sound and preform, a fuller more robust presence (to my ears as well as many others). If it means anything, the #1 SQ competitor in the USA in the MECA ModEx class switched from an original Brahma to and SSA Icon and is scoring very high.
Many of the sq heads that love the really flat response dig the XBL2 sound. But I think it is more at home in the home audio market then the transitioning car audio market where accuracy is not as important as it used to be. Sorry for the ear full, well eye full, but there is more info about the whole Adire ordeal that I have forgotten and others would remember better then I would.
Somehow I end up back here with my original idea.. Im just waiting for them to get back in stock I am just going to go with 1 for now in 10 cubes tuned to 30 hertz .
