Post by mhyde71 »

Anyone know how to get their hands on schemetic's of any of the PG amps?? In particular the MS 275...
Is this a possibility, getting a servixce repair guide or schemetic's... I have heard (havent tried - but will later today) but have heard that PG doesn't like to give them up... I just wanna see about fixing my 275 I have sitting in my room for the last year or so.... any help/direction is appreciated... thx

I'd say ya might look into having PG fix it.........

or Cecil would be yer next best option......

Yeah cecil has already sent me something that resembles the schemetic.. but it was a re-run from some EU company/joe... but Cecil says it's pretty much it... problem is that it doesnt reflect power supply...

BUT the idea behind this is that my friend and I kinda wanted to do it ourselves for fun.. ya know.. My buddy used to work on Abby Road (London) as an sound engineer for various recording studios (worked with past Beatles, The Pretendars, etc..) and dabbled in this sort of thing and we kinda wanted to try it ourselves... but he said it would be so much easier if we had the schemetic... so I thought I throw this line out and see what it brought if anything...

I will approach PG and see what they say.. but, it's like my friend (Tim) says he has had service manuals from other mfg's before, i.e. another buddy of mine had a guitar amp that needed fixing, and he called the company or went to local shop and picked up the service manual that had schemetic's.. why is it different with this Car Audio Stuff?? is it becasue Car Audio Mfg are much more protective of their work/property?? just kinda curious about all this... or maybe if that it gets out they wouldnt have so many people sending in broken amps for repair?? I perfectly undertand, but why some companies allow it out freely and other not?? just curious. And when I explain to my buddy that PG probably doesnt want to let it out so freely becasue of that.. he says..."But it's a 20 year Amp??!?!?... " so I dunno.. I know i could always sent to C-Man, and have it fixed up.. but we kinda wanted to see what we could do here in his shop... ya know?

If it was another model of amp(XS/QX/Octane/Tantrum) I'd say go for it. But being an MS amp, to preserve it's awesomeness I'd have it done. Plus C could give it BB's and some other upgrades that PG wouldn't do.

I see where yer coming from though. JMHO......

what exactly do the BB's do.. do they really improve SQ, or run cooler, etc...? just curious?? and can any of the MS series amp's get the BB's I suspect so.. as they all have same.. but has anyone done them to say a 2250 that is used for sub's, and does that really make sense to do.. guess it depends on what the BB's do for the amp??

PG doesn't release schematics, since they do all in-house repairs. I think what Cecil gave you is the best you can hope for.

Well, if the PDF says PSP-2003 at the bottom, then 'Joe' is me ;)
I know its floating about on google these days.

I drew it because I had an MS275 that had clearly been Fried by some SPL monkey (The MS isn't indestructible I can tell you)
The Power supply isn't complex, as with most amps of that era - You can guesstimate almost all of it by looking at the reference schematic in the controller IC datasheet. Otherwise, pen-paper and a multimeter and beep out the circuit board, which is what I did.

No Problem...

And for reference, should anyone find themselves repairing a SoundStream Reference 405.. (Attached)

One day I must get round to beeping out the ZPA05 I have stashed under the bed! Fortunately that one works just fine - just need a car big enough to use it...
