10 or 12 for soung imaging

Post by D00B »

Im getting an RSD sub really soon. Now im having trouble deciding which size. I have 6.5 comps up front and I need something that will play low, hit fast and acurate, and blend in well with the front stage. Will a 12" help me get a little louder? I listen to alot of fast techno like trance or Drum N Bass if it helps. Thanks in advance guys.

Welcome to the forum.
Bfowler wrote:its pretty amazing what different animals the 10 and 12 are. the 10 is very accurate and punchy, but the 12 is my favorite. it is also very punch and accurate and gets "shake your car apart" loud....

I liked this observation. Everyone I have discussed these subs with has told me they were amazingly balanced and blended incredibly well with the RSd comps. If you wanna get "a little louder", by Fowler's comment, I would say 12 indeed :D ...But unfortunately I have not heard them myself yet.

With the 6.5's, especially if you seal them, the 12 will be perfect. Once broken in, those 6.5's can give out some whalloping midbass, so having the big woofer is less detrimental.

if you hve the space, there is no reason not to go with the 12. that sub is damn near perfect in every way

i listen to a lot of electronica music myself, and the 12 more then kept up with anything i could trow at it

Thanks for the help fellas. For the record, I'm using JL XR's for my comps. I havent heard alot of other speakers out there, but I can tell you the midbass is much more powerful than that of the Type X's and the MOMO's that I did hear. They made my rearview mirror go limp before I even had the amp installed. Now I can feel them beating on my chest. I want a sub thats gonna mess my g/f's hair up. I love to feel the sound.

tried and true fact: 1 rsd12 in a 1.8 sealed box + 600watts = 135db on the dash with regular music (not tones)

you should be a happy guy
