Tough time deciding between ported and sealed 2 RSDC12s

Post by TheZaZ »

Been out of the car audio scene for quite some time now.. (4-5yrs) Got busy drag racing and moddin my GTO.. :) I use to be on the old forum back in the day.

Anyways, I just grabbed a pair of RSDc 12's. Ive always run 15's in the past. I usually ran them sealed as that was plenty loud with a pair of 15's. I only ran my atomic Shocker 15's ported back then in a 10cuft ported box for pure SPL. (sounded crappy but allowed me 150db..hehe)

This is my first set of 12's. I just recently installed a deck and a pg 1/0 gauge amp wiring kit in my 97 cherokee. Right now Im running a pair of 10" Xmax's (sealed) and a old school RF BD1000.

The sound quality is pretty good and the output is pretty decent but just wasnt enough output for me.

Im gonna grab the RSD1200.1 amp here in a week or two to power the rsdc's.

I went through all 60 pages on this forum researching what people said about them sealed/ported but Im still having a tough time deciding.

Im building the box myself...been using Google Sketch Pro to mock up some designs.

If anyone can give me some more input to help sway me one way or the other that would be great. Watching videos of them on youtube just doesnt do much justice.

Id love to have good SQ but also would like some damn good output..especially down low.

Thanks....(sorry for the long post)

Every ear is different. I love'd my demo unit in a larger sealed box. It played low, loud, and accurate.

If you have a dual 12 box around or that you can borrow even a pre-fab, just to get an idea of what they sound like before making a custom box it may be well worth it.
I think we've established that "Ka Ka" and "Tukki Tukki" don't work.

thats a damn good point...i dont know why i didnt think of that. I might just whip up a box for one of them really quick and do that.

Dont think I have any boxes around anymore..ended up giving them to my friends when i got out of car audio for awhile.

Also, if I do decide to go ported what would be the best size to go with? PG manual says .79cuft which seems awfully damn small to me.

My best friend had a 10" Infinity Perfect back then in a ported box and that thing got damn loud in his S10 truck and sounded really good. Ive only done ported boxes for SPL back in the day so getting a good mix of SQ/SPL for a ported box is beyond me. hehe
