Problem with a Tantrum 600.4 amp

Post by kg1961 »

I had this up some time ago. My friend bought a tantrum 4channel off me and the one of the rear channels of the amp doesn't have sound
the amp does not get hot pull current or has any other problem than no sound.
We tried changing rca ect so we know its the amp not wire or the deck.
we opened the amp up to make sure the dat cord was not pulled out or damaged
anything else to look at? ideas
let me know
thanks
let me know I want to get this fixed so he can enjoy it

Maybe the output fets for the channel are bad? Maybe instead of shorting "open", it shorted "closed" and is just not producing any sound now? Maybe the power supply fets are toast? I would pull the fets off the output side of the channel that is not working and test them and see if they check out ok, and then pull the power supply fets off and test them if the output fets check out ok.

Here's a link to where I pulled my 600.4 completely apart and took photos and documented how to test the fets, and also have part numbers for both the power supply fets, and the output fets in case you need to order new ones...

Hope that helps and let us know what happens and I will try to help you where I can!

Only one channel? Are you use front as the source? Did you try swap speaker wires at terminal?

using both front and rear (we know the rca are not the problem). yes tried moving the speaker wires front to rear same thing. so it not the wiring. it the rear left channel if that makes any differnce

Try to turn rear CONFIG SWITCH back and forth 5-6 times and after that still no output you have a defective channel.

I will try that but what can i look for if its is the channel I thought it would be more rca related if there are no other signs of problem
