plexi thickness

I'm about to start building a sealed sq box for two of the new elite 12" subs. I was wondering what plexiglass thickness I should use. The plexi will only be on one side of the box, opposite of the woofer mounting baffle.

I was thinking the same thing, just figured I'd get extra input before i give it a try. Plexi that thick isn't the cheapest stuff to play with. LOL

0.75 would be enough for a 500 W rms sub, but for a 1600 W rms sub i would take at least 1 "......

yea thats a big window gonna need to go as thick as you can afford I would say.

two layers ?? then take at least 0.75, 1/2 is indeed a little bid light for this powerful sub.....

i personnally love to work with the green( waterproof ) mdf, it is stronger than the classic mdf (but it costs more)

finding 1" thick wood in the Chicago area isn't the easiest thing to do for some reason. mdf in general is getting harder to find.

Find a local shop that deals with finishing materials like a cabinet shop. Or look up a mill wright. They will have 1" mdf. And if you ask around you may find there is a light weight version. It's still 1" but weighs almost half as much as the regular stuff. You should be able to get 1" fir plywood as well.
I do a lot of work with wood and laminating two layers of wood together in my opinion is not a good idea. If the lamination is not perfect the layers can cause noise in the box. Also it is possible to warp. That's why plywood is made with several layers, and each layer has the grain opposing the next.
Try laminating a 1/8" piece of veneer to a piece of 3/4 "mdf using standard glue and in the morning it will look like a hockey stick. Put the veneer on both sides it will stay perfectly flat.

can't find plexi or mdf in chicago? I might say that in my shitty little midwest town I live in but I would syspect you can find either of those two there.
