Zx475ti repair

Post by vwdude »

I've looked through trickyrickys thread on the zx600ti repair and I also have some amp repair experience, I wanted to start a thread to help others who may be doing this and also get some feedback from those with experience with this amp.

I ordered "FC" series caps, 3300uf, 25v, 40-105 degree. I wanted 8200 which would fit but they were back ordered.

I found some damage and so e other interesting stuff...

Very dirty...

Burned stuff

So I ordered the row of resistors (0.5 ohm 5%, 1 watt I think), those two individual resistors toward the right of that bottom burned picture (2.2 ohm, 1/2 watt and 33 ohm 1/2 watt) as well as the transistor on the right (toshiba 2sa1943). What I couldn't figure out was the transistor on the left (the row toward the back of the amp) as it didn't have any markings on it (neither did any of he other 4). Also, there's a little component that had tiny writing on it that I couldn't read. It's in the center of the top burned picture, in case anyone knows what that is and could tell me. I'll do more research when I have time.

Anyone have any input for me I would greatly appreciate it. My plans for this amp are to either add it to my collection or use it in an install in either my wife's car or my father in laws car. I want to do some custom work on the outer case as it's really badly rusted.

Woah your in for a heck of a job. I would just replace all the outputs and the emitter resistors.

I would check all the fuse resistors as well as those WILL NOT SHOW any signs of damage. Check the power supply as well, if the outputs shorted it very likely took the power supply with it.

All those transistors have marking/lettering...get some thermal compound and spread it on the face of the transistors, then wipe it off....you'll see the lettering much more clearer.

PS: The emitter resistors are not 1watt, they are either 3watts or 5watts (you'll have to check the datasheets when ordering these resistors to make sure they are exact size and wattage).

Hey so I think I got the right emitter resistors, see pics below.

So I started off with new caps

And new ones installed:

Now, for the ugly...not done yet, but I'm starting to get it ready to reinstall parts...
Remember this...

Now the fun begins...

I haven't soldered in the resistors yet, I want to fix the black finish under them first, just making sure they are correct.
