Issues
Issues
Ok, so im driving to work today, and i think my car had a mild stroke or something. My right 6.5 started crackling and then just quit, I unhooked the rca at the amp and left it alone till I got home. On the ride home the right side tweeter started acting up, crakling and has very low output. Im afraid its the speakers, which wouldnt suprise me they are about 6+ years old. Id think about going out and doing a channel swap and testing both sides, but its getting to be single digits out and the garage has no heat.
Setup is a X200.4 front channels running the tweeters, rears running the mids.
My initial thoughts are dump the componants, BUT who makes a set that can run that kind of power. I dont really want to get into the $150 retail componant set. But I wont spend a fortune for good stuff anymore.
Im open to ideas and help on this one.

super,I can only come to the conclusion it was on its way out from its last owner then, Ive only been running my mids off of it, and the gains are all the way down.
Who would be worthy of disecting the amp for diagnosis?
Ive never had any amp issues in 12+ years of doing this. Sad, but not a US PG amp, so I was nervous going in.

PG's rates are more than fair. If I had to live off their repair rates I would starve, and or go out of business.
Amp builders that actually service their products are trying to build customer confidence and brand loyalty. So they repair for cheap rates to keep their product in your hands.
It all makes perfectly good sense in the long term business plan of things.
You could have bought a Fosgate. I hear nothing good about their service group and policies. Responses like buy a new one, and here call these people they repair Fosgate, Its the same with PPI, call them Oh we don't really repair we will trade yours in on a B stock refurb for $125.00 to $250.00, but it will be the next model up from yours ,,, yeah right PPI has 1 (ONE) technician in the USA. I'm sure hes very busy
refurbing warranty returns yeah right, They send them back to the factory in whereever to repair and refurb for resale. Same for Hifonics, and many others..
At least PG stands behind you guys,,, Think about it, I'm telling you the truth for your own interests

If it goes in. It will never have to go back. I think PG got their shit together and fixed the problems.
That may be true, but I have a guy at rockford, I could get it fixed, hell I was running pre-production Quart amps, that ran better than this xenon for about 2 years, and I have only had this amp for a few months, a bit dissappointing.1moreamp wrote:PG's rates are more than fair. Im fearing its the amp, I just went out and hooked it up with the Q x-overs, to just the front channels, and there are still issues, I am afraid it has cooked at least a mid woofer, and possibly the tweeters, there are still output issues across the board.
I think I should have held out for what I really wanted, ZX or XS amps.
With that being said, I am looking for ZX or XS amps. PM me or aim me with what ya got.

"and I have only had this amp for a few months, a bit dissappointing."
After a few months of use (relatively quickly) is when they tend to sizzle like that. Unfortunately, the build house that produced the xenon for pg did have some definite quality control issues, specifically with some poor solder joints that cause the problem you're experiencing.
PG did a bang up job of stepping in to clean up the mess though. They did everything they could to get the product back to Portland for a second round of qc, but unfortunately there was still a lot of product that wasn't taken care of for miscellaneous reasons (likely product that has been transhipped). Send it in for repair and don't worry about it anymore!
