Help with a RF power 1000
Help with a RF power 1000
I like the crew here better than the RF forum so hope this is ok here.
So I might be picking up a power 1000 for $250. It is stated to power up but not sure on sound. So I think to send it in, reburb it, would still be a good deal.
What do you guys think?

It will need a bunch of things to refurb it, although it appears to be in very good condition electronics assemblies age from heat, use, and just sitting around the Caps can go bad < electro-chemical devices that Caps are they can breakdown with time, thats why they have lifetime ratings and such in their spec's>.
Are you asking what it will need??? As it varies with overall condition, and will require some testing to decide a proper course of refurbishment.
LMK if I can be of help with any questions you might have, I have been inside several of these over the years since they were introduced. Always count on replacing the fan no matter what. Theres a guy on e-bay by the names of dealsbyjason that has the exact replacement fans and other parts for Vintage Rockford amps.
At 4 times 250 watts at 4 ohms its a powerhouse from the past. Please try not to bypass the internal fuses as they are there for your protection, along with the inline fuses on the speaker wires.
If you fail a channel these fuses are your only protection from smoking your speakers. These fuses also can protect your amp from being pushed into failure as long as they are not tampered with size wise.....C

Cool glad you saw this Eric, I think Landis(sp) is still taking older, p to p equipment. we will see I guess any one else have any shops in mindEric D wrote:Send it in where? Last I knew, RF would not work on these amps.
Other people can work on them, but make certain they do good work. The old Power line is full of point to point wiring, and aged parts. A technician needs to have some good skills to keep these amps working 100% and staying that way.

Thanks Tristan!
OK first off...guys dont hate me I am getting lucky on craigslist. This power 1000 deal was strange he had it sold so I sent hey if you get jerked around I have cash in hand. 2 weeks later emails me to meet up and I picked it up today. I figured it would be needing some help, boy was I wrong. It has no blemishs and has only been in one show car in it's life. Was given to the guy I bought it from, he found it in the closet and he didnt want it because it would pull to much current....you think?
need to get input on setup ideas on this monster in another post.

Well JOMA trolls ebay and buys and resells right?
I guess here in Kansas City I have a market with the craigslist. It is mainly if you go pick it up with cash people give you deals.
Make money with the internet, he should write a book
What is odd is he said he had about 2-3 people call him when I got the MS-2125 that seller said he had over 10 calls.
How was this amp not hunted more...?

A couple of years ago I had the chance to purchase about 8 Power 1000's at once. They were coming out of a competition vehicle and the guy just wanted to unload all of them at once. For those that followed the scene you may have noticed a "glut" of them hit the market all at once. I considered buying them all, selling the rest but 2 to keep as mine but as life would have it I had a million other things on the go and couldn't take time to make this happen. I'm pretty sure "you know who" did not happen across the deal. Let's just say I could have had all of them in working order for about $800.
I love the look of Chrome Power 1000's, I have always wanted to and one day will.... make a wall "art" mural with mounted monster amps: Chrome Power 1000, PPI A1200, PPI 2350DSM, MS10000
PS. Somewhere I have the test report from CAR AUDIO that includes this Power 1000 and a few other monsters from that era.
