MS1000 display

Post by nico boom »

O.K guys, although my last post about my ms1000 blew up a storm, I'll just trust that's in the past now.
This leaves me with finding a space for this monster in my livingroom-setup.
After making a cardboard scale-model of the amp, it became in fact very simple.....there was only one place it would fit!
It will hang above my audio-rack with my other MS-amps in it, pics to follow.
BUT...
How to mount it without damaging it in any way?
I found my answer, and constructed it.
With the plexi downwards [the ideal position], the pins exactly fit in the four outer holes of the heatsink; the goldplated bushes with the rubber on top prevent the amp of resting on it's plexi.
Just wanted to share the first pics of it.As work progresses I will post updates, and am open to [constructive  ] comments/ ideas.

**THANKS TOM for moving this**
Glad you guys agree with the solution I came up with so far, for mounting
And here she is....
These supports can carry the weight of my whole family!
Ankered in the wall with 8cm. plugs and screws.
That will hold this monster up in the air for sure.
The supports will be partially covered by laser-cut plates; what would you cut out of those triangles that will decorate these supports?
MS1000, PG, ..... :?:

Thanks for the comments.
The ms1000 will be connected to my towers; each half of the amp in bridged mode, playing from 50 hertz upwards.
For sub;
Recently I changed from my peerless sub, to a bnib cerwin VMX-15 woofer that I could buy for very[very..] little money.
This woofer has a very low res. freq, and is capable of a large excursion.
Combined with it's big cone-area, this delivers real pressure from 50 hertz downwards.
It is powered in it's closed box by my bridged ms2250, connected to the basscube to compensate for the natural roll-off , like all closed cabinets have.
This combination is so overpowered that I will never see full output, unless I want to tear down my house....
I guess the ms1000 will deliver more energy to it's heatsink than is needed to drive those towers!
Would be a shame though to just let it hang there.
It is mounted at a height of 1.3 meters, so it is easy to see the internal of the amp when bent over [honey, look at that beautifull inside of my amp..."again?".. yes, again.... ].
Ooops, let's not get carried away here.
The pics show the brass power-bars I made for my audio-rack, to conduct the 14.4 volts to the amps on every glass plate where needed, and to the top where the ms1000 can suck it's power up.
It's also under construction, but you guys can see where I'm going.
It all needs a lot of thinking and doing, but hey; for me that's the fun part

Power-bars bought in the local do-it-yourself-store, grinded, and polished like they shine like gold.
I know what you are thinking of Ivar..]
Did you already find any bars for your amps?
Cost about 9 euro's a piece.
[and some sore muscles in my arms  ]

Hey!! there's my friend from Belgium, where they brew the second best  in the world!
It is thanks to Didier guys, that I came up with some of my best ideas lately..
He brought me a basket full of Belgium's finest beers when we first met at my home... some strong ones too I might add.
After drinking just ONE ,I got drunk, and the best solutions suddenly came to me!
So I thank you Didier for your help, but ehhh...I've only got one beer left... and I need many more good ideas....
Just joking here; like to see you again when you are ready with the more important things in life...
Updates about the setup coming tomorrow :-#

(sorry nico...i HAD to :P )...love brian

WTF... Brian!!!
Oh well; anyone who can drink more than two beers ,drinks me under the table, and certainly knows more about it than I do.
Today Martin kruit visited me, so work on the display and power bars have been delayed.[no prob. on my account ].
Martin is just as audio-infected as I am, and we had more than one laugh about our history's; they show very similar things we did! [and do].
It was a pleasure to meet you Martin, and drop by any time you're in the neighbourhood!
This evening I hooked up most of the install; tomorrow I will make the last connections, and awaken the ms1000... 8)
Pics coming tomorrow.
Now I'm gonna drink that last BEST  in the world.

Both the amp rack and the mouted MS1000 looks great, ive seen it with my own eyes.

Also i have taken a look at Nic's PG colledtion, al the amps are cleaned and they are very shiney as if they where manufactured yesterday.

As said; it was a pleasure meeting you Martin!
You are doing some serious audio work as well I might add...
Your [ 8) ] VAN, shows you are experienced in what you do, and that you have spend a lot of time already getting it to be the best sounding vehicle possible.
AND NOW....
She plays!
After finishing the last connections, it was time to hit the switch on the powersupply, and watch those blue lights come on.....ooohhh man; that is NICE 8)
The whole audio rack glows in blue now, since there are 12 blue led's glowing from those three MS2250's.
The three glassplates underneath will be filled with a MS2125 and a MS275.[first pics show quick try-out]
Have to figure out where to leave the basscube yet, maybe a beer can help out here..... damn! I'm run out of those.
THE SOUND; although I have tested a lot of different amps over the past year in this setup, this amp surprised me from the first notes it produced.
The instruments, and voices seem to be originate from mid-air; the speakers are standing there, but the sound comes from everywhere in between; a huge "stage"feeling is present.
So I'm very surprised by the musicality of this bulky amp.
The two bridged halves have a enormous headroom ofcourse in this configuration, and that shows right away when playing loud.
I could go on like this ,telling you the detailes this amp reproduces compared with some other[very fine] amps I've tried; but I'll just stop here.... :D
I will be confectionating new interlinks for the setup, as nothing fits anymore after this change.
Used a pair of interlinks for now, I had lying around.
The pics were taken without flash, to give an idea of how it actually looks like for real.
I will enjoy this whole experience, in the way how I got this amp, displaying it, and in sound!
My next project with three MS2125's will not affect this "setup"; I do not want my wife to get "upset"....
