Post by Mackenzie »

I have found the midbass monster of my soon to be 3way setup. Should solve my midbass needs to blend in well with the subs. 8)

Yea, that would definately work.

Thos things are more subwoofers than midbasses tho.

Well the tang band is out. Its just far to large. I thought I could make it work. So I canceled on the order. I did however find a better driver, that is made by the same company that has the maelstrom 18s.

It has a nice Xmax of 9mm . When are you buying these? Your gonna have to let me /us know how they perform. Also , where are you placing them?/ I would like some ideas to figure where I might place them in my set-up

These are typically made for home audio cabinets correct?

I plan on getting them soon, I just need to obtain a bit more data on them. I plan on running them in my doors. I am still trying to get all the drivers for my 3way system. I plan on running a tweet, and midrange in the pillars, and the 6.5 in the door 3way active. I want it to look something like this..

Your driver's low QTS ould suggest it wouldn't do to well in your car doors, unless you plan to build an enclosure for them.

More Xmax will just mean it can go lower, it won't necessarely help out the midbase area.

The door will be completely sealed up so that shouldnt be an issue. I also disagree with that last statement. More xmax in a sealed enclosure means more output. Simply put. This driver isn't final though, still in the drawing phases.

It might be sealed but the volume would make it behave like if it was in an infinite baffle.

Assuming comparing identical drivers but with different xmax ratings, more xmax = more output at lower frequencies, it doesn't "strengthen" all the frequencyes, it only allows it to play lower.

w/ the way you like your subs dont bother wasting your time w/ single 6.5" drivers.

Go 8" or dual 6.5"
Can one send others to war if hes not willing to go himself?

Whoah... I didn't notice they had 5.25" and 4" versions as well!! Awesome!! Tang Band <3!!

The paper cone probably sounds pretty decent on midrange. Looking at their spec sheet, the 4" plays pretty damn flat from 100-8khz... you could probably have a 2-way comp set with that thing.

The 5" driver seems to be even more capable at midrange (on paper at least). Ohh wow I want one just to play with

I dont agree. The rsd 6.5s had plenty of mid bass for me, and either of the drivers mentioned in this thread will destroy the rsds in midbass output.

How much money you want to put on that? I will happily take your money. paypal? Given the specs, both drivers should easily destroy the rsds. They arent god, ive heard better midbass drivers...

the rsd is made to be a part of a componet set, where is the tangband is a full fledged 6" woofer.
it probibly will beat the RSD if put to a bass test. the rsd would destroy it on vocals though

BAss test yes, but I don't beleive it will destroye it in midbase. But then again destroy is relative.

Have you slaped the drivers in winisd or bassbox ect to see what it looks like or are you just basing your reasoning on the specs? And are you only looking at the xmax as your spec? hehehe.

xmax is a start. Obviously in a sealed environment, the driver with the most xmax has the best advantage in terms of output. Both drivers have way more xmax than the rsds. All being the same size, the rsds are at a huge disadvantage in terms of output.

depends on the environment the driver is placed in to.

The rsd driver reacts wonderfully in a shitty IB situation, such as a door. My guess is it has a low moving mass, higher Qts, and a FS suitable for IB. So probably higher than one would hope for when designing an application for a sealed or vented alignment.

Just because a driver has a massive magnet on it and higher Xmax mean it will outperform another straight out of the box. I would be willing to bet the Tang Bang with proper tunning and eqing would be a far better midbass than the RSd, out of the box though the Rsd is very hard to beat in terms of midbass.

My focus is with the exodus speaker, not the tang band. The tang band is to large for my doors. Im not willing to do any glassing work in my doors, I want to leave that all for the pillars.
