Re: removing silicone from boards?

I have had mixed results using an artist's eraser, no grit in the compound, to remove silicone smear from finishes. Sometimes it works sometimes not.

A used and broken grey MS2125 in 2009 from Craigslist. It's working fine now, well impressed with the sound quality.

Re: MS-2125 Re-Cap

don'tcha love it when you take a tool and modify it in some way that you hope will help, and not hurt anything. I can only imagine thinking that you were all in when the sparks from the grinder started flyin. I might have to do that myself as I have an extra set of side-cuts.... Big time But Beware...

Re: MS-2125 Re-Cap

Thanks for the kind words.
After de-soldering the caps I cut their legs off flush with the board for easier removal.
Even though the Chip Quik tended to clog the solder pump,it's still the way to go with this work.

MS-2125 Re-Cap

Inspired by the re-cap threads here and elsewhere I have taken the plunge. This is a first for me, comments and advice welcomed as I would hate to blow it with this amp. On to the piccies...... After removing 6 of the caps using Chip Quik but before clean up, looks like a little cap spooge.... http:...

I made a masonite template and took it to the fabricator. I picked up the new granite counter top with sink, a week later. A couple of friends came by and we installed it in less than a 1/2 hour. We are very happy with it. I also placed a heating mat in the mortar bed under the floor tiles. That has...

I used a hybrid tube amp, US Amps AX TU100C, for about a year. The sound was grainy until the amp warmed up, about 5 mins. I replaced the tubes after about 9 months of daily driving. It was an easy job and the tubes are readily available, Sovtek 12AX7LP, about $35 delivered. It was 18" from a J...
