Phoenix Gold is coming out with an SX line this year. Looks to me like it will be similar to, and perhaps replace the R line.
http://www.gizmofusion.com/2014/01/phoe ... nics-show/

EDIT: Upon further comparison it looks like the amps will be comparable to the SD's and the speaker line will be a beefier version of the R's. The subs look like a marriage between the Ti's and the R's on paper. There is also an 200 watt rms 8" subwoofer in the line if you are into that sort of thing. Apparently it will have the same 35mm peak to peak throw as the rest of the subs in the SX line. There really aren't many 8's out there that can muster that kind of excursion. Keep in mind that every sub in the Ti line is 40mm peak to peak, so these 8's might be pretty good.....for 8's. I'll be interested to see the depth on them, and if they can sound good playing midbass. I'm not optimistic that they'll be shallow enough to mount in a door, but who knows.

Looks like the old SD series had them one upped in power, and in cosmetics too (imho). I'm certainly not a fan of the way these SX's look. Uggggly.

Wonder what else they have going on?

I'm still holding out hope that they have a 3 way add-on in the works for the Elite components. If this is all they are unveiling at CES I am going to be sorely disappointed.

Kenwood is making the most noise as far as new product releases including an amp designed for ATV's, and Precision Power has an interesting 3 way component set coming out. http://www.ceoutlook.com/2014/01/03/pre ... t-tweeter/

Aside from that the story is all about head units, and nothing terribly newsworthy at that.

i think they were inteding it to replace the "s" line that was also a small forum factor: http://www.soundbuggy.com/Eric/Car%20Au ... index.html

They removed the R series amps from the website a few months ago. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if they were replacing the entire R and S lines with SX, as well as the SL shallow sub line, and will start phasing out all of that very soon. The SX subs are better than the R's on paper, but not quite as strong as the Ti2's, and the SXt shallows are basically just a rebrand of the SL's. At least on paper. I tend to think they are just getting all of the entry level gear into one line, and getting away from the overlapping and redundancies that they had before.

The 8" SX sub and it's 35mm P2P excursion is intriguing as hell though. Especially since it does it with 200 watts rms. If you think about it, the best mainstream 8's that are out there right now are the Sundown SA8 and the Alpine Type R. Both of those subs are that or less in excursion, take more much more power, but only have sensitivities around 81. If the SX 8" has a sensitivity around 85, which I kind of expect it will since PG subs have higher sensitivities in general, it could very well be among the best 8's on the market in spite of the power handling.

That being said, only rebranding the entry level line wasn't what I was hoping for out of CES at all.

okay guys, sorry to let some of you down but at CES no 3 way addition was released on the elite componants.

for the sx line it is replacing the R line and doesn't really look as bad as it seems. they did some other stream lining but for the most part the rest of the product is the same.

the frs they had there with all SX sounded very good for the price points they intend to hit. I did notice that the soundstage in that car was very decent and wondered about external processing, my partner nailed it to them and yes they were running an audison piece in the car.

but for the most part the new 8s sound really clean and I think will do very well in the 8 inch market.

the main focus from a lot of headunit manufactors this year seems to be oem intergration keeping all stock controls.
Kenwood has a system with ford sync that ties into the ford system and allows you to add an double din unit that will communitcate with the cars obd system as well as sync. its basically like stock, all controls work with the addition of vechicle gauges and also obd CEL codes can be pulled.

they make the wiring as well as the kit.

yes the PPI componanat set 3 way is really looking good especially at that price point. I spoke to the engineer and
I like where its going. we will be getting a set to throw in my co workers roommates IS250 and I will let you all know how it sounds.
crime stopper had the all in one remote start/gps/control unit for cars using smart phones. better then DEI, matter of fact had some DEI guys checking it out when I was there.

alpine fan boys well alpine pulled there heads out of there asses and atleast put DOUTS back on all of there dvd players but still didn't add the AINET controls for there PXA piece...so dumb. other then that the decks have more controllability with there smart phone app.

JVC/kenwood still leading the way.

Rockford fosgate had the new power amps on display that are like the size of cross overs. very nice and lotsa power in a small package. they had a 19 inch prototype sub on display and they also had a new T2 woofer that makes the current one look like a girl scout. the most impressive thing I would say I saw was the new shallow mount woofer from Rockford. I wont go into detail but the 12 has same power handling and excursion as the T0 12. how they got the excursion was simply innovative. drew is a genius.

I do want to say that the new diamond amplifiers are really pretty and small. Larry Fredrick made a very nice amp for them and cerwin vega. the new stroker woofers are crazy

I would keep an eye on Diamond audio.

overall all the vendors had some good things to show off.

aloha

Here are a couple pics I ripped off of PG's Facebook page of their CES displays. Kind of tells the story of what's getting phased out, and what is current production. Just like the website, RX, SX, Ti, and Elite are the lines going forward. R, S, and SD seem to be going away.

Well, they had a demo car there too, but they really weren't announcing anything groundbreaking, so no need to really have a bunch of hoopla.

this is a very large problem I think. imo
if you are still new back to the market should your display have a heck of a lot more anything to it.
all the line look the same in the speakers

show some pride show some gold show the new logo. I run trade show 2 times a year and not many people care what a shop did to install your gear but the gear
most would walk right by

Something I just noticed. Zoom in on the picture with the amp wall and look on the table behind the rep in the white shirt. WTF is that driver on the table in front of the drink bottle? Is that the new 8"? Too small to be an Elite and the magnet is too big frankly to be anything else.

wow were you at the show? The pics didn't show anything about the demo car and I am willing to bet there was a little more there to be seen. No need to bash them saying they don't care I mean unless you were at the show and got that treatment. Making an assumption off of 2 pics is a bit presumptuous imo. Might be right but idunno...

I wish I was there, I agree with Scott, I'm sure there was more to it. After all like he said it's only two pics.
But they say a picture is worth a thousand words. I'm in no way bashing, because I love the gold, but all the little things like the plain looking display's doesn't draw you in. Like Mike said all the lines look identical. It seams to me the pg website is not updated very often either. For me products are almost impossible to get. other than to finding members to buy and ship to me. But then I get no warranty because none of my gear came from an authorized dealer.
All these things together make it hard to stay excited about all the new and great things pg does do.
Also if you go to many other forums, there is almost no talk at all about pg. It's crazy. We need some hype from pg. When I first found this pg forum not thing I loved was hearing Morgan chime in frequently. It was exciting to me anyway. Not so much now as I'm sure he is swamped. But my point is it's just the little things that make people buys products.

Bash or not it imo is a piss poor way to show what you have
Please someone show pics of kenwood sony I bet they know to use color.. just saying.
Running a company that sell items of color or what that make us differnt than other than I would never do it that way. Again a show car is great if you sell the biggest item the car than the company that installed it im sure has a name on the set up bigger that the little pg logo on the amps.

Backlighting is fancy stuff.

Kenwood had the most new stuff of any car audio brand at this show. They had something to show off. Phoenix Gold on the other hand has a new low level line, Ti2 and RX products that were featured last year, and the Elites were a couple years ago. They didn't have anything new worth getting excited about. The press release will do more for the SX line then their booth at CES. All the glitz and hoopla in the world won't get people excited about entry level products.

Hell, I am the biggest defender of the new PG gear that there is, and even I expressed disappointment about the news coming from the show. It was disappointing.

Guys this is 2014, not 1994, CES is extremely expensive to attend. The days of massive booths at CES for car audio (amps/speakers) companies are over. In fact, most of the other large names in Car Audio do not exhibit on the show floor. The PG displays and setup of the booth is targeted toward making it easy for a dealer or INTL customer to quickly understand what is new or the different levels of product that are offered. There was also a demo vehicle with three of new long throw SX 8 inch subwoofers, SX amplifiers and SX full range speakers.

As for 2014 product, we relaunched the complete middle part of the product lineup with the SX line. Now everything falls into clear categories: RX, SX, Ti2, Elite.

We also made a commitment not to show any vaporware or prototype items that will not ship first quarter of 2014.

I will post more info on the SX items in a bit.

My mind is already fantasizing about what this sentence might mean. I have a list of things that I wish it meant....... but of course that sentence is all the detail Morgan will go into it too I'm sure.

My dealer got the SX 10's in today, and the manual included specs for the 8". The 8" sub has a peak to peak of 30 mm and a sensitivity of 89db. That is unheard of for an 8" these days. For all intents and purposes, on paper, this sub with 200 watts going to it should have pretty equal output to the Sundown SA-8 or the Alpine Type R at it's rated power. It also costs much less than either of those subs, and has a depth around 4.5 inches.

This is going to be a damn popular sub.

The guys I know that still have shops operating from the 90s era around here have the same sentiment. OEMs have killed a significant part of the aftermarket audio market share. I personally would rather see a company devote resources toward function and reliability, I don't care what this stuff looks like hanging from a false wall, how things sound and how well they hold up is the whole point. Having a demo vehicle there speaks more to the confidence in their product to me than any flashy light up displays or scantily clad women (though I will never complain about the latter). Just my $.02
